So What Are Road Racers Doing During Down-Time ?

Well it seems transporting donations of personal protective equipment as part of the BCT movement to hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, doctorsí surgeries and dentists on what looks like a 125cc Honda Zoomer.....

Derek Sheils - legend ! :thumbsup2:

All the bikers delivering PPE to hospitals and nursing homes are LEGENDS....

Legend me bollocks. An excuse to get out on the bike for a photo opportunity.
If a good deed falls in a forest and there's nobody there to take a photo of it... Good job there was, eh!
An post would have done it without the need for a photographer, as would any courier (apart from Fastway, and probably DPD).
Anyone working in a shop is more of a legend.
Legends me bollox.

Re: So What Are Road Racers Doing During Down-Time ?

Done some ppe deliveries and I aint no legend. Made no bones about wanted to get out purely for the spin and managed to get 100 miles in on Sunday with 3 drops. Was glad I could help out in a small way also. Great weather and minimal traffic. Zero interest in getting my mug on any social media platform as that kind of stuff doesnt interest me. Professional cyclists are doing the same thing in Europe to get the training miles in..

Re: So What Are Road Racers Doing During Down-Time ?

You're missing the big picture here folks - it's a positive news story for motorcyling in Ireland - we don't see them too often, yet this one appearing in a national paper is being berated by some who'd rather squirrel away in their shed on some hape 'o shite rather then get out and help others in real need....:ninja:

I doubt anybody is looking for personal plaudits - just showing the Irish motorcycling fraternity in a positive light.

I tip my hat to all bikers currently doing this type work at the moment - fair play to ye lads/lassies and fuck the begrudgers !

Re: So What Are Road Racers Doing During Down-Time ?

I went out myself on Friday and Saturday. They wanted to get some stuff out ahead of the bank holiday.

Thinking to myself that I was mainly doing it for the spin and that's being honest. But also, I was thinking that the AA didn't set something up for car drivers, or the Van Association for van drivers or whatever. A group of bikers did it. They saw a need and they responded and they got a huge group of people to sign up. And when the loads are too big, they'll get cars and vans and even trucks. The mode isn't the priority, the job is.

Would An Post have done it? Sure, in a few days. Could you have gotten a same day courier? Y€S. Are there car or van drivers sitting there willing to go? I am sure there are, but no one has gotten up off their backside to organise them.

A group of bikers have had the initiative and commitment to follow through and co-ordinate, and fair play to them.

I'm not begrudging anything. Fair fucks to them for doing it. It's the photo opportunity and subsequent fawning from grown men that sickens me. It's like watching a bunch of women watching Coronation street.
Fair fucks to them for doing it but they're not 'LEGENDS'. The doctors and nurses are fucking legends, but I don't see many threads about them.

All x 1,000 registered BCT bikers could have sat on their holes on the sofa with their hands down their jocks watching Countdown all day long and done nothing being my primary point.

Agreed - maybe legends is too strong a word so (there's room for only one legend around here :ninja:) - a spin in this weather is a spin nonetheless.....

Will ya just relish the good news story about biking in the main-stream press for once.....have an ice-pop or something to cool yourself off....:lbhbh:

*Off-topic - lad around here has a cage with one of those multi-sound horns, one being the sound of an ice-cream van - he sets it off once in a while for the craic and kids come running through bushes, fall down from trees and leap walls running - it's fucking gas (and cruel of course for the snowflakes)....:lbhbh:

The nurses are dancing for jibjab and doctors are either playing chess in the wards or staying at home watching cats on youtube boss, hospitals[incl private] are empty so there's no need for ppe or any masks and there's certainly zero demand for weeks and weeks of constant collection and supply of same, a media driven illusion for non-essential gloryholes on facebook wanting likes and virtual pats on the back.

The real heros are those behind the scenes who sign up to volunteer.ie to do essential shop runs for old -timers living alone and absolutely scared shitless to go outside their front doors during this overhyped media epidemic, and who have [ thru no fault of their own] actually fallen prey to fake news like the gospel and rte and pretty much everything they've been scared-mongered into believing and spoon fed over the past number of weeks.

Bear in mind ( according to a biker.ie veteran who advised not to put a thread up for this very reason ) you may not be insured for such spins if anything should go wrong with, say a false neutral during a 3rd gear wheelie on one of these essential runs so check your policy carefully as it don't fall under 'recreation and leisure' if you say, wiped out and lowsided into a clusterfuck of socially-distanced self-isolating morbidly-obese joggers non-cocooning on an apex somewhere near baltinglass.

No insurance company would risk the PR disaster of refusing a payout to some lad (who lowsided on his 16th lap of a roundabout trying to get his elbow down) on a mercy run with facemasks to Gandhi in Mullingar general.....:ninja:

If you were delivering ppe to any of the nursing homes then you deserve legendary status. Staff were given fuck all of the stuff. They were the ones in there in the thick of it.

I do emergency runs into Oranmore for Lavazza and Tesco French blend coffee, occasionally, when the situation is becoming desperate. Am I a legend?

You can be whatever you want to be - the only limiting factor being your imagination....:lbhbh:

BTW, Thomas & Co coffee shop (beside Tesco, Oranmore) is reopening tomorrow for takeaway only (10am - 7pm) !

Yer man in the middle of the pic on the Zoomer - what's his story? Great week runabouts but 50cc max I think, even the customised jobbies were only 70 or 90cc.

Be out for an age on one of those :woots:
