» I raced a Harley
Jun 28, 2017 - 4:27 PM - by FlatOut
Race with a Harley

I raced a Harley today and after some really hard riding I managed
to PASS the guy. I was riding on one of those really, really
twisting sections of mountain road with no straight sections to
speak of and where most of the bends have warning signs that
say "MAX SPEED 50 KPH".

I knew if I was going to pass one of those monsters with those
big-cubic-inch motors, it would have to be a place like this where
handling and rider skill are more important than horsepower alone.

I saw the guy up ahead as I exited one of the turns and knew I could
catch him, but it wouldn't be easy. I concentrated on my braking and
cornering. Three corners later, I was on his mudguard.... [Read More]

» Most popular helmet brand??
Jun 28, 2017 - 8:02 AM - by carbon
So there's a lot of brands out there and was curious as to what helmet brand is most popular with people and do they stick to the same brand or swap and change. I use a shark but only as it was a good deal for a good helmet when I started off so I know no different. Might be time for a change...

» forks sticking need help
Jun 27, 2017 - 8:25 PM - by thecube1
Hi Lads, I took my forks apart to fit new seals, rebuilt the first one no problem but the second one is sticking at the bottom.
It is when i put in the damper rod and do up the bolt and slide the iner tube down into the bottom part, it seems to be sticking in the white plastic damper seat. the seat goes into the bottom of the fork inner tube then goes solid.
any help would be appreciated as i am pulling my hair out.
will try to sort pictures.
thanks in advance.

Jun 27, 2017 - 4:06 PM - by oroura25
Hi everyone,

Woke up this morning to the sight of the ignition being dug out of my SMR in a botched theft attempt. That's two KTMs I have now with busted ignitions. The alarm must've thwarted any further bastarding but I didn't hear it. Probably best that I didn't.

I've been looking to get a really good tracker for it. What would you recommend? I don't mind paying a high price because I'll never get another SMR as sweet as this in a million years I'd say.

Thanks folks!

Alan

Hey folks,

First want to say hi to everyone since I am new member on this site.

The time has come to do the first 600 mile maintainence on my gixxer 600 L1.
Just wonder if some of you could advise the place in Dublin/I.E where I can buy OEM Suzuki 10W40 full synthetic oil? Any good alternatives/thoughts?

Thanks in advance for looking into the matter,

» Air filter sponge for NSR 250
Jun 27, 2017 - 11:41 AM - by Dub Duke
Is there sponge you can buy and cut to fit the air filter?

If so, where to get in North County Dublin?

The sponge in the NSR 250 is completely degraded and needs to be replaced. Circa 35 from David Silver spares, AND delivery time could be weeks.

Jun 27, 2017 - 12:03 AM - by gap35
So, had a problem with my starter and it was the starter Cluth or Spragg clutch as they are called sometimes. Expensive little bastids but found this and it's good quality - http://www.ebay.ie/itm/172489415946?...&sojTags=bu=bu
May be useful to somebody sometime and the bonus is you get the pullers as well.
Fun started after I put it all back together again. Starts no problem and runs
like a clock until te oil light came on at speed (100 km/h) so I slowed down and light goes off. I changed the filter ( had put a new one in a few hundred miles ago) just in case there was some debris from gasket or some shit. Problem... [Read More]

» lunatic drivers on back roads
Jun 26, 2017 - 10:12 PM - by Cylinderhead
I like to go for a potter around back roads Dublin/Wicklow mountains, on my 70s trailbike, these are L roads, narrow, and with numerous blind bends, etc. I always wear hi vis, headlights on, approach each bend with extreme caution, rarely exceed 20 mph, in short, I ride defensively. Almost every time, I am met with speeding drivers, who blast around blind bends, etc, seemingly oblivious to the possibility of any other traffic. A recent example... A pickup truck coming at me really fast on a very narrow twisty road, I had to hit the (drum) brakes really hard, and just managed to avoid disaster. Young guy driving baseball cap back to front," real cool dude", a bloody menace on the roads. ... [Read More]

» Restricted DL650
Jun 25, 2017 - 8:10 PM - by Trotter Independent Trading
How's things lads,

Picked up a 2006 DL650 recently, what an absolute joy to ride, beautiful bikes and so comfortable. Anyway, after a few spins I was beginning to scratch my head as to why it seemed under powered (wasn't much there trying to overtake). Started looking into restricted ECUs and sure enough it looks like my one has a restricted ECU. The code on it is 27G10 while I believe an unrestricted ECU is 27G00.

My question, is it possible to unrestrict the ECU without changing it? And if so how?

Or does anyone have an unrestricted ECU they'd sell?

Cheers in advance

Jun 25, 2017 - 5:49 PM - by chopper
i said id post a few pics of this so....
the little b25 had been lying up most of its life , the engine was a bit clattery when i got it , a lot of b25 "experts" thought it sounded ok but i had a feeling there was too much noise. it sounded a bit too much like big end wear.
i had about 60 miles up on it after servicing ,cleaning carb and points etc getting it running and it started a right racket while it was flying along .
first off a few pics of stripping it down .

I'm heading to Skerries to watch for the first time next Saturday. I wont make it to the circuit until after the roads close so was hoping to get parked up somewhere along the Dublin road. Can you still walk around the outside of the circuit an bit once the roads closed or will you get stuck in the one spot? Can you still get to the paddock once the roads close? Any advice much appreciated.

» CBR250RR MC22 rear shock options
Jun 24, 2017 - 7:08 PM - by ehonda
Howyis,

Have a knackered mc22 I'm tidying up, and the shock is fubarred, feels like its bottoming out over fairly small bumps at speed.

I felt great improvement to the nc30 when I did the popular bmw1000rr shock swap, and am wondering is there an equivalent for the mc22? I would be apprehensive about buying a second hand mc22 shock because even at their best its a 20 year old shock for a wee jap.

I'm probably 13 stone with full gear and backpack. Its for road use, I just want something that feels solid enough, nothing too mad as an ohlins would be more expensive than the bike!

Any suggestions? Cheers

Hey folks,
Just wanted to get some opinions and info about the different brands of Kevlar jeans. I don't know much about them. Is there much of a difference in terms of protection? What kind of safety standard should I be looking out for? Any brands I should avoid? Heard some poor reviews about Lidldealdi ones, Kevlar only in certain areas/impact points with plain denim in slide susceptible areas etc. Any advice greatly appreciated.
