» New Conveyance for the Lazy Biker
Jul 20, 2017 - 1:44 PM - by GreenRex
New Conveyance , its the automatic one , just cause I'm a lazy bollox. Sold to me by the nice lady. Going to put about 5000 miles on it over a couple of weeks, so should be interesting to see how it does. Heading to Sturgis for the Harley drink fest in a week ( about 1200 miles each way ) , hope they don't burn me at the altar of the perfect bike

» gsxr wheel paint
Jul 19, 2017 - 9:12 PM - by sharpbikes
Have painted the wheels twice now with grey primer followed by gloss white and a clear lacquer, first time i went with stuff from a local hardware and used pro solve grey primer then hycote white gloss and theyre own brand lacquer, it turned pink in patches or around the whole rim. next time i painted it with the same primer thinking it was theyre lacquer and used hycote white and then simoniz clear acrylic coat and again slightly pink in areas.

so what am i doing wrong? its driving me up the walls being without the bike each time as im constantly waiting for the paint/primer/lacquer to dry. is it common with white paint?

» Dublin Parking
Jul 19, 2017 - 5:35 PM - by 7Zero9er
Hi,

I've just started working in Dublin and have been looking for parking in the centre but most carparks don't have any information for bikes and apart from that one section off O'Connell street the options look limited. I see some bikes parked on the pavement near railings and cycle rails but I'm unsure whether it might get carted off for illegal parking.

I'm new to the city so any guidance/help Would mean I at least get back on the bike for what's left of this summer.

Cheers.

» Long term off the road
Jul 19, 2017 - 2:43 PM - by mikeskettle
I have a question about taxing a bike that has been long term off the road.
I have a 1975 Suzuki GT750A model that I bought crashed in 1981 with the intention of doing it up and getting it back on the road.
I never got around to putting it back on the road and have had it in bits until recently when I have started to restore it.
I never registered it in my name as the time as it wasn't roadworthy and not on the road. I have the original old brown log book.
My question is how do I go about registering it in my name and taxing it.
I have read loads of posts about tax arrears which are a bit worrying.
I want to make sure I don't have to pay any tax arrears as it has never been registered in my name and never on the road.
It has also not been... [Read More]

» Cam and lifter damage
Jul 18, 2017 - 11:28 PM - by DavyH
Have an 07 R1 here with a ticking engine noise. Exhausted all avenues then decided it was time to take the head off and check it over properly, with the cams out it was clear there were signs of damage to the lobes and lifters on 2 intake valves,1 on No.2 and 1 on No.4! It looks like the case hardening has been slowly chipping away on the lifters, and the lobes have been getting cooked up with the friction.

So I'm fairly sure the ticking sound has been pinpointed! Question is WTF has caused it. I'm leaning towards a manufacture fault but even though everything else is checking good I still can't be certain!

Anyone come across this,I'll try put pics up

» Bandit 600 keeps blowing 30A fuse with ignition off
Jul 18, 2017 - 10:44 AM - by Pete84
Hi all.

I made a mistake and opened full tank because I heard some hissing noise, some of the fuel spilled out down the tank and frame. Smoke came out of the wiring loom underneath the tank/seat and now I have a short circuit somewhere in the wiring loom. I have tried to disconnect connectors to side stand, switch gear and generator but 30A fuse socket keeps showing 12.5V.

Any ideas how to find the short circuit ?

» Recommend a scooter
Jul 18, 2017 - 12:02 AM - by Tevion
Hi all
I have a few old large cc bikes, but recently I got a job in the city centre, so I just want a scooter to get to & from work.
I am thinking of a 250-400cc bike or would consider bigger.
Reliability is the most important factor.
Also, I do all my own maintenance, so I want one that is easy to work on, so for the valve clearance check, I want a scooter that has a valve adjuster & lock nut system instead of shim & bucket type, as I don't want to pull out cam shafts to make adjustments if required.
Appreciate any advice that's going.

» anyone with a zx7r in the midlands to help me out?
Jul 17, 2017 - 10:50 PM - by sharpbikes
Bought a zx7r two months ago, very neglected bike that looks like it was tracked also, have spent two months trying to sort a stuttery idle (1-3rpm). have stripped and jetted the carbs and the best setup is good at idle but still stutters at low revs.

is there any kind person around the midlands with a zx7r that would be able to give me a hand and help me test ecu, coils, carbs from their bike would only take a small while as i have worked on bikes for years, hence why this bike is annoying me as the current carbs have been off atleast 10 times

» What's the best comfy/performance bike?
Jul 17, 2017 - 8:57 AM - by RTV
My fellow bikers,

I'm entertaining the idea of switching the R6 for something a bit more upright/comfy in the near future, so I wonder what would you guys recommend to go for?

I would like to keep about the same power/performance but with a more compliant ride, so Sport Bikes are out of the question which probably leaves me with naked ones??

I love the R6, best looking bike in my book and that insane high revving engine gets me everytime, but it's just the position that kills me after a few hours.

- What's the matter McFly, are you chicken?
Yes, I definitely am... so digital nanny would be welcome as well (ABS, TCS, etc).

» First day on my first bike, rear ended by a car:(
Jul 16, 2017 - 7:08 PM - by bman
WhAt are the chances! I picked up my first bike yesterday, a nice red deauville. Took the bike out for a spin this morning. Felt great. Stopped at a junction at the back of the airport waiting to turn left and the car stopped behind me decides I am not there and proceeds to rear end me.
Fairly tame accident but a bit of damage to the bike, thankfully I seem ok. Hopefully the bike isn't too badly damaged, and I can get back on the road very quickly.
Just want to thank the biker on the green Kawasaki that stopped for me. I didn't get his name.

Just highlights the vulnerability of been on a bike.

» Honda Shadow whurring noise and square wheels
Jul 15, 2017 - 9:54 PM - by pedrogonzalez
lads,
Have a 2000 honda shadow vt750 with a few issues, the main one being the whining/whurring noise going up the gears and the revs. Going through 2nd and 3rd gear it's an obvious noise but the engine drowns it all out on the 4th, no major loss of tpower b ut the gear shifts are not great. Can be difficult through neutral to 2nd the odd time.

2nd issue is the initial clutch release, related to the first issue no doubt!! When im releasing the clutch slowly in first gear the bike feels likes it on square wheels, it kinda rocks forwards, speeds up and slows down in short bursts. Thought it might be clutch plates but i could be talkin out my arse!

In belgium for the next while so i wanna get a bit of idea before i go near any mechanics with my shite... [Read More]
