Question Odometer Broken - need help!!!

Noticed the other day that the odometer on my clock is stuck on 28999!!! Hence its not recording the mileage I'm doing on the bike. The Speedo works fine and so does the tripometer. Since these are sealed units so that they can't be tampered with (clocked) does anyone know of anyone out there who specialises in this sort of thing (not of a criminal persuasion... no offence

Is the speedo driven by a cable or electronic?

Its driven by cable... so not a matter of simply reprogramming the odometer!!

But if I got a new one the mileage would be back to zero... I think that would be much better

!!!

Seriously though, when it comes to selling up down the line I think it would be advantageous to have a working odometer. Besides, being stuck on XX999 would be a bit of a giveaway

Try taking the cable out of the clock and the wheel nut. Then pull the inner cable out a bit and try it again at the clock end.
I had that problem on my Ducati and it was just the cable was a couple of millimeters short and wasn't engaging with the various gears inside the clocks.
Took a few tries to get it working and lots of unecessary cursing.

I don't think it will work - one of the mechanics in JP's had a look yesterday and couldn't get it going. The very first number reel (that counts 1/10th Km) does go around but the rest aren't moving so I doubt this can be fixed without taking the thing apart and maybe resetting one of the reels.

Can you replace the inner metal cable only and try a new one ?
Maybe the end of your cable is damaged or worn down with use.

I'm attaching a pic in case you're not familiar with the Magna setup. I'm guessing I can detach the clock from the surrounding mount from behind so I'll have a go over the weekend.
