Hello just a quick question,i'm doing provisional test in july and am thinking of getting a 125 just to get used to riding for awhile,i'm getting the 'A' provisional and was wondering if i was to buy a 125 am i allowed to take test on it or does it have to be a bigger size engine.

i'm by no means an expert but to do the 'A' license test you have to ride a bike bigger than 125cc

If yiu pass the full A test you are still restricted for 2 years from the date you pick up your full licence and not from the date of your test.So get your new licence straight away after passing.

O.K no one above me seems to have a fuckin clue ,

So look here,

You can do your full test on a 125cc bike,

Once you have your prov A license you have to wait 6 months before you can take your full test,

After/if you pass you have a 2 year wait before the restriction is lifted ,

But what i would recommend doing is get a few quotes about how much different 250cc bikes are and then go and get a 250 thats not going to cost to much on insurance

Because with a 125 you will be bored of it in no time and want to move up in the cc's , so save yourself the hassle and get a nice 250

you can do your full test on a 125 cc bike but you'll only get a full A1 license.

Thanks nsr125,can you recommend any nice 250cc bike i should look at, i like the aprilia 250 but is above the 25kw and the cbr 250 but think is again over the 25kw.I got a quote with quinn for the aprilia 250 and was 540 for third party which would not be that bad but i would have to restrict it.

I wouldn't worry about restricting the aprilia if it's a 250, as i don't think they goin to check the power at the back wheel if it's a 250, and if a guard decides to have a spin on it it'd be fairly hard to tell if it's over the 33bhp afaik. Have a look at the Hornet as well!
