Well lads, Im looking for another bike, i always liked the look of the tdm and hear they are a comfortable yoke to drive, I am put off though by some reports of the engines being weak and prone to early failure.
Any thoughts or advice on these bikes appreciated To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. |

Had a TDM850 as my first bike a good few years back now.
Really liked it at the time but make sure you do not have to replace the collector box / exhausts and I remember thinking that the brakes were not as good as they should have been (well compared to the VFR800 I had after anyway). Engine was fine though and able to get a move on. Check the suspension as it was a bit wafty compared to a sports bike at the time and it's an old bike now so unless it's been upgraded it will probably really feel its age by now. Every now and again I look at them and keep an eye out for a minter thinking I wouldn't mind having one again so I suppose that's not a bad thing! nice to ride , dont touch cheap high miles , " just needs carbs balanced " etc etc .........
coupla years ago i defended em coz 2 mates worked em as couriers with no bothers ,, there not a high milage bike , imo (now) To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. there nice to ride , a well kept one at the right money maybe , search tdm forums To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. |

get a 900 much better than the 850, new gearbox etc....not a popular bike so 2 to 2500 should get you a good one. mate got a 8k miler 03 model for about 2600, but maybe a fazer 1000 would be better value......

In my opinion they are very tall and top heavy.
I lusted after one for a while then I got a test ride on one and instantly disliked it. For the money you have you want a nice reliable second bike, I reckon for those sheckles you want a zzr1100. It makes sense as its got wind protection, motorway gets eaten up, twisties are still fun, can be a winter bike or full on summer tourer. Loads about which means spares are easy to get too. |

Had mine for 3 years with 58m up on it(and would still be riding it if i didnt decide to park it in a river) had to replace the clutch basket but other then that no problems, the gearbox can be a bit clunky but a grate bike to fling around cant go wrong for the money their making.
