Been on one a few times and they are a nice bike. Engine is no better than the k6, strong bottom, less in middle and slightly more on top. Brakes a little better but still the weak point. Forks are nice and plush. Shock feels the same. Handling overall similar too.
Build quality top notch based on guy I knows one. 40000km and parked outside all the time and it's like new. Bullet proof too. If you can get one cheap sure why not

It's what Doc John used to use as his Medical bike.

He meddled with the chassis but, left the motor stock and can often be seen catching the back markers!

That's a friend of mines old bike that went to the south within 24 hours of being advertised. He's a right fussy coont too. He wasn't happy with the Suzuki colour scheme in a few places and had them painted to match what he wanted (top job too)

I rode a mates K8 (I know it's not a K9) on Sunday and it felt OK but I was happy to get back onto my own bike. Brakes were fine, suspension was nice for the roads, nice smooth power delivery, but the riding position just wasn't for me.

Rode a k9 and found brakes-suspension better as expected however i didnt feel the K9 had the same mental midrange as my tuined K6, maybe had a few extra mph top end over my k6 but i wouldnt miss it, worth trying a K5-6 thou before you buy.

09 r1 outshone it that year and the s1000rr pisses all over everything in 2010, i'd go yammie or bmw if u had the cash, then again i'm not a fan of the newer suzi colours or the low twin pipe set up(very tourer or somethin?)
