Hey guys, turned on the ignition on ER-5, smoke started comin out from wiring under the ignition barrel id guess. popped the fuse, replaced n popped another.
Only thing i did diff was remount the satnav to just infront of the barrel, thinking maybe it had the key slightly pushed in or summin idk, but guess ive got trouble now? Gopnna try and get to it see if anything burned. Any suggestions what could be goin on guys For the record the second fuse popped with the sat nav removed plus wiring |

Your fuse should pop if there is a direct short.
If the fuse is way too big it won't pop and the wires will heat up and smoke. If there is a loose or weak connection, it'll take more effort for the current to flow and that'll also heat up the wires. (if it heats or blows with everything off... see first line) Check to see if there are any wires shorting against metal or eachother. Check if there are any loose, corroded connections. Make sure any additional wiring is connected plus to plus & neg to Gnd/frame. Check to see if the wires are fully stranded (that half the strands are not broken somewhere at a joint or even inside the insulation) Make sure the fuse is the correct size. hope that helps some bit Last edited by Airman; 19th March 2012 at 03:23 PM. |
