If the engine is turning over, then I doubt the problem is anything to do with any gears... if it is turning over?

How did you test for compression?

There is a reason you can't find their mobile numbers, probably because they don't appreciate calls at 930 pm on a SUNDAY, especially on bank holiday. I think what you are asking about is a woodruff key. Is it the little halfmoon shaped piece of metal that drives the flywheel with the shaft? If you are in a big panic to get it running for tomorrows practice day in doon, don't worry, its cancelled due to rain.

if all it is is the woodruff key they are cheap enough, be less than a tenner, if it did shear pay close attention to the crank shaft where it sits in to make sure it didn't do any damage. the older wr's had a big problem with them backfiring on startup and sheeering the key, not sure if the tm's suffer from this issue. Did you take the flywheel cover off and kick the bike over and see if the flywheel spins or not? that will tell you if the key has sheered, you may need to gently hold it as its on a taper spindle and might spin with shaft but not under load. If you are stuck a engineer supply shop should sell woodruff keys but there is no gaurantee that it will be the correct size, especially without one to match it up to
