Default Fazer 600 rear suspension

Have a 2003 model Fazer and the back shock is fairly soft. Im gonna adjust the suspension to a harder setting. Should the adjuster turn handy enough?

Modifications: Pacemaker. Oh, the bike - gasflowed EXUP fahsand.

Do you mean the preload collar? They're usually a bit stiff, particularly one that's been around a few years. I should think a suitable sized C-spanner would help a lot, as opposed to whaling on the thing with a screwdriver and a hommer.
