If you just bought it, I suppose you don't know the last time the valve clearances were done... chopper should have good things to check, but I'd be thinking valve clearances would be a good thing to eliminate (especially on a Kawasaki).

Flush and replace the coolant too. This is something a lot of people overlook. Nothing to do with your hot starting problem, but again if you've just bought the bike, it's worth doing for peace-of-mind.

The lumpiness could well be partly down to carb blancing - they benefit from a regular balance (not absolutely necessary like but leaves them smoother). A lot of ZXRs are an absolute pig to start hot. Register with zxrworld and you'll learn all you can eat. Theres a couple of threads on hot starting.......But definitely agree with the clearances as well. Easy to do on 'em thankfully.

I had a similar problem once with a zxr, and after doing the industry standard test method of touch the exhaust to see which one doesnt burn your finger I discovered the bike was running on 3 cylinders and my jets in carb 4 were blocked
