Dunno what the reason was for that. I have a feeling these are not the original clocks off the bike though. It will do a lot more than 80 MPH anyway. They were aimed at the american market as 'big is beautiful' out there. They did not sell as well as expected, So most of them found their way back for sale in europe and the UK and here....I have plans for them clocks....Electronics is another big hobby of mine....LCD speedo and Tacho??? hmmmmmmmmmmm...........

Will be keeping an eye on this,

As for the clocks only reading so far, some states in america have the law that the cages and bikes can't show above a certin speed.

I think it is to discourage people from seeing how fast a thing can go. A safety thing to stop speeding.

you can buy a gun in a bank but you can't see how fast your going

From wiki
On September 1, 1979, in a regulation that also regulated speedometer and odometer accuracy, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) required speedometers to have special emphasis on the number 55 and a maximum speed of 85 mph (137 km/h). However, on October 22, 1981, NHTSA proposed eliminating speedometer and odometer rules because they were "unlikely to yield significant safety benefits"
