Official Press Release -

ATHEA ROAD RACE PRESS RELEASE. Athea Road Race Club regrettably wish to announce that this year’s event will not be taking place. After coming back last year, we experienced a number of problems with the road surfacing of the circuit and also with the drawdown of the grants due to the current banking situation. The club has not reached this decision lightly and we hope to run again in 2013. Thanking everyone for their continued support and wishing everyone every success for the 2012 season. Keep‘er Lit. Athea Road Race Club. 21st February 2012

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Serious blow for local commerce and bikers in the region - double fingers to the local council and politicians. Seriously hope the Athea Club are back next season

Always looked forward to going to Athea, shame its not running but last year the track surface was a disgrace! A big blow to the commerce and tourism for Athea it brings a lot of business into the town i'd say.

Disappointing but understandable. I remember seeing pics of a few bikes after the race last year and it was a disgrace. fairings and screens in pieces and a few riders hurt aswell. Hopefully theyll get it together for 2013

Ridiculous how it clashed with the new Sunflower meeting in the first place.

Last year, the ould guy who owns the pub on the corner in Athea came out to the door and said a couple of hail Marys and an our father.
Thats Ireland for you. We all had to respond. Fair play to him and god bless him too.
Not that I'm religious.

So with the help of god...Athea will be on again..next year....so we can get the blessing !
