thanks Jofass ! yea these colours are not that popular IMO.

Here are some images of the suspension front and back.

The shock, forks and yoke's i got from RON KEYES they were in better cond. than
the ones I had but decided to re-cover them in black gloss. the rear links were cleaned and coated. again all the bolts, nuts and washers where possible are replaced with stainless steel.

tanx ron!

Well the bike is totally stripped down to the crank and bits bagged!

Im in 2 awkward situations now.

1] I cant get the main bearings out - dont have the tools, so I gotta give it to someone to do? and possibly get them to build the engine for me?

2] the crankcases are rotten, they need a big clean after the initial cleaning I gave them to remove the crap off. there is a lot of corrosion as mentioned before - but is there any point in removing the corrosion? I mean the engine is not going to be seen.
It will mean either sealing the insides to protect the bearings or do I just go for it and get someone else to totally rebuild the engine?

Is the bearing stuck in the casing or on the shaft? if its in the casing, it might be worth trying to heat the casing using a gas torch. if you heat the casing quick so the bearing doesnt get much of the heat, if will expand a little, and bearing might be handier to get out without any special tools.

thanks Captain!

yea one of the bearings is in the casing, i could remove that all right as you say with a gas torch but the other is on the crank and needs a special puller to get it off.

it sits about 2 or 3mm apart from the actual crank so its not something im gonna try without that special puller.

Well been busy over the last while with stuff around the house so havnt
got as much done with the project as I would have liked.

I got the rear wheel and sub-frame sand blasted, oh and the rear brake disc removed that I got stuck on. GRP4 engineering did the job they have a small sand blasting booth there that the parts fitted into.

They seemed not to be too bothered in doing the job at first but got it done anyway. The main thing was the disc removal thanks for the input ladz earlier in the thread

I did the front wheel myself with water based paint stripper, Dremil with stainless steel wire brush and a brass wire brush.

Regarding the engine rebuild, I have decided to have the bearings removed before I attack the outside of the crank cases.
There is a bike mechanic working in the same ind. estate as me who is gonna remove the tricky ones and im gonna let him rebuild it for me also.

I would like to do it myself but I was gonna get him to fit the new main bearings anyway and the barrel needs a special torque spanner to refit as my standard torque wrench and socket wont do it

Soooooo he might as well do it from start to finish.

I have started with the top end clean-up >

yea some amount of work - too much IMO!

have the crankcases barrel and head cleaned after a lot of work with the little dremel.

Have them now painted up in the garage [pics to follow]

popped it into the oven today to get it warmed up before painting.
