This unit was donated by RON KEYES and was/is in better condition than the original with less corrosion.
I must admit I spend less time sanding and polishing this and under the studio light more of the heavy sanding marks can be seen, im just not willing to spend any more time at the moment polishing, i might give it a final once over before i re-assemble. again this is coated with ACF50 for protection against oxidation/corrosion. still working on the rear caliper - stripped all the paint and corrosion with the aid of a Dremil and stainless steel brush, then masked off the contact points of the 2 halves ready for re-covering.
I took a look at the pistons and they are 100% perfect as is the internals of the caliper. thankfully no marks on the pistons. I havnt been as active lately with the project. But I have the rear caliper fully rebuilt. I installed new pads and seals, replaced all the bolts washers and lock-nut with stainless steel. The threads have been coated with SP400 corrosion inhibitor and torqued.
The paint took a while, 1 primer, 3 red coats and 3 clear lacquer coats. The mounting bracket has also been cleaned, polished and coated with ACF50. thanks guys!
im working on the engine mount brackets and battery box unit now to recover them. i want to get the engine sorted during the week also with a view to starting the re-build. The engine bolts into the frame/swingarm units so I want to assemble those all together. Oh and I have the forks and yokes sorted also, will throw up a few images later. |
