anyone know how to release the allen head nuts holding on the rear brake disk?
I snapped an allen socket trying to release them. I suspect the front is gonna be the same. Impact driver? |

Some closer images of the engine.
There seems to have been a leak at the powervalve area and water/oil mixing in the engine somewhere, seal or gasket gone somewhere? Hopefully the blown powervalve gasket is the cause of all the goo but I think a engine rebuild is definitely on the cards? To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. Few raps with a punch and the socket with a big lever turned it. You've already gone down that road. Impact next, then heat I presume but I've not much experience with this |

tanx johnni.
another question regarding alu polishing. im toying with the idea of polishing the frame and swingarm ant other bits and bobs to a high mirror type finish - would it be ott or should I just go with an original type finish of kind of brushed alu? Jeez it's rough enough for such a low mileage bike isn't it! Will be all the sweeter when you get it back to it's former glory

I think the polished frames look well on them alright, personal preference I would've said To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. tanx dobo - glad you're enjoying it
To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. Had to get the polishing out of my system tonight. Had a 2 hour stint at a section of the frame to remove the pitting and corrosion, oh this is going to be tedious. I used some wet and dry sandpaper rough enough to get some of the pitting removed and then used a polishing kit to TRY and get a shine back into the frame. It worked out ok but still needs more time spent at the sanding stage. Starting with a heavy grade of paper and finishing with the 2000 grade paper ready for the polish. Here is what I have done tonight. I wont be posting any images for a while now as there is just hard tedious graft ahead of me for the next while. Anyone know where I can stock up on a 10 gallon drum of elbow grease and a shopping trolley of red bull? To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. |

No on the elbow grease, but I can recommend a drill mounted polishing kit that I used on my CR. About 40 bucks on fleabay but you would get one reasonably local.
40000 rpms of tender loving care beats wet and dry any day! Good job so far. |

tanx rage and scorpy, yup gonna got on a polishing buzz.
In me dads place this evening and he has some power tools I can use, happy dayz. I got one of them polishing kits all right and yes I need a lot of RPM which I wouldnt get with the elbow grease. On my trek over to the east coast today I swung by to drop into RON KEYES' place to pick up some much needed parts. BIG BIG BIG tanks to Ron, had all the parts I identified on the break down and will save me a lot of time and save on the overall expense of the project. Ron had some lovely machines and a pure sound man to deal with! Thanks Ron To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. |
