Resprayed mine recently with cans from life sized sex dolls, you can get a great finish for a low price (with some patience)
and the best thing is you can touch it up anytime with another can To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. PS: don't spray a normal lacquer on top of an almost dry petrol resistant lacquer To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. |

Don't know if this is obvious but sometimes the spray spits at the start as the old paint in the nozzle comes out. Start sprayings off the item until this stops or you'll get lumps.
Also if you get a run wait for it to dry then sand it. If you try and rub it off you'll rub right back to the Primer. If your surface isn't smooth no amout of paint will make it look good, so sand fill, sand, prime, sand, prime, sand, spray, sand, spray, spray, spray, lacquer, lacquer. Use an air gun to clean off the sanded dust before priming or spraying. Use lots of thin coats in a hatch eg 4 spray strokes down then 4 accross. Don't move closer with the spray as you work - it will run. Spray paint is good on fairings and tanks but hammerite metal paint or (farm machinery paint) and a brush works better on the frame in my opinion. Again you'll need to sand between coats to flatten the paint. It will chip until you lacquer. A clothes line outside is a good budget way to hang the stuff as you work. I did the tank on the R6 recently and as mentioned already, a warm room is crucial as well as warming the rattle cans in water before use. Don't forget to use a petrol resistant lacquer cos you're bound to spill some petrol when filling up and ruin your work otherwise.
Most of all, take your time, prep well and enjoy the learning experience. It won't be perfect first time but you'll soon get the hang of it To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. |
