Cool Help finding first bike.

Hi lads.
Im new to the forum and im just looking for a bit of info on my first bike. I have my licence with 3 years (20 now) and never got a bike because i always had the car but im going to go for it this summer and buy a bike. I have the A licence so i just need a bit of help from the people who know what kind of bikes i can get insured on etc. I dont want a 125 cc so anything from 250cc to 600cc restricted would be what i am looking for and i kinda had my eyes on a bandit or a hornet if i could get one cheap enough as money i tight atm (bloody recession). Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Brian

For list of 33bhp bikes, anything over that you need restrictor kit installed, factory or otherwise. If you buy a bike and need it restricted Chopper & TQS Racing do em €250, ( open to correction). check with your insurance company first to see if they will accept non-factory restriction certs, Quinn, Adelaide, C&N, AON. And use the search button on top, you would be surprised how many times this subject comes up

bandit be the job, i can see from your username that you will be 21 soon. this is a golden number for insurance companies - they will start to insuure you on bigger things or for less money. so a bandit 6 would be uninsurable at 20 but they'll quote you at 21 alright.

if thats the style your after, a 600 restricted is best bet. Hornet for me is a better bike, but youll find a Bandit for less & they are fairly well matched. Honda CB400 might be something to look into aswell.
as has been said, get quotes on everythin & look as much as you can, but always, if possible try bring someone who knows their stuff along.
good bloke to call especially for bandits is JT Motorcycles (wanna be givin me commision @this stage

a race rep will crucify u on insurance @ 20. go for a naked bike like a honda super four or a suzuki gs500. da gs500 be my choice. plenty of poke for learnin and bulletproof. a naked bike alot cheaper to fix than a faired bike if its hits da road. plus ud pick up a gs500 for about 1500 or less

CBR 250 are a nice bike alright but im kinda stuck on the idea of an unfaired bike atm so the gs500 would be a nice start alright

I think that if you are lookin for a good first bike dont go for a restricted 600, it will never feel as good as a bike that makes 33bhp naturally go for a Bros 400
