Default Crazy BMW Parts Prices.

I priced some small parts just the other day. Now I know bmw parts are pricey, so I was expecting it to sting, but check this out. I'm having rough cold starts on the 1150 GS (plan on selling this bike soon) I figured I just try replace the Coil packs. I was told €97 each. (There's 4 of them)

Then I was shocked to be told €163 for a battery for my k1200. That's just the parts, no fitting. I thought he was joking at first.

That's ~€600 for just small consumables. I walked out of there disgusted at myself for having bought a BMW.

You do not have to buy an original BMW battery, bet a generic battery at a fraction of the cost would be at least as good if not a lot better

"Trial and error". It can be an expensive way of doing things. There are some sites where you can download the service manual for your bike. Work through the manual and you might find the root cause.

Ah good news. Thanks for the links. For some reason I thought you could only get bmw bits directly FROM BMW. Now I'm glad that I didn't take a dump on the showroom floor.

Vultures! Shes a 1150gs adventure 2005 with about 70k on her. It's got all the extras and the aluminium luggage and all that. She's been sitting up for a few months and at the minute just takes a few cranks to get her running when it's cold. I'd be shooting for about €7000 but I'm in talks with the GF about doing a round the world! If the talks continue going well then I'll probably keep her do it on that and sell the k1200GT instead. A friend of mine was suggesting I sell both and get a nice shiney 1200GS Adventure. I'm not sure, I've heard bad things about the electrics in them.

What bike would you do it on?
The initial plan is to drive from dublin to morocco do a lap of morocco, catch a flight across the atlantic to the east coast of the states. Drive across the states to Oregon (the gf is from here) then drive south through the states, mexico, central america and into south america. After this we'd catch a flight to Oz, maybe taking in new zealand too. After a lap of Oz we want to hit parts of asia, but I'm not sure how well the bike would work out for Thailand, China, Japan etc ?

Some of the consumables can be got elsewhere, but for something like an R1200C, there won't be any generic parts made. I can't imagine the expense if someone dropped one of them.

coils dont normally go on the older bmws untill they are about 20 years old, if your battery has low voltage it could be causing a missfire,

Do you no harm to have a browse on here . I would say it is the battery you need .Just put a new one in mine .Cold weather kills the battery on a GS if it is not been used .

Cool. Thanks for the offer. My trip probably won't be happening anytime soon though. I'll probably do a 2weeker on the continent with the GF on the back to see how we get on first. I've done a 5 weeker last year on the GS and it was great. That was some of the best craic ever.
I was snowboarding in andorra a few years back. I liked it there. I heard there's some great biking around the Pyrenese.

Shouldn't be a problem getting in to Thailand and up to China via the golden triangle. PM if you need any info,I have good mates based in Malaysia that have done that trip a few times.
