Default Big maintenance job...

Hi, I want to do quite big maintenance job on my ZZR400. The maintenance will cover:

1. Valve clearance
2. Carb balance
3. Clutch (only investigation, I can hear kinda rattling sound from clutch but one bloke told me it might be becouse the carbs are not balanced)
3. Oil and filter change

so my question is (how much will it cost do do all this bits and pieces?) my kwaka is close to 40.000km

im doing a special for dec on valve clearances. 160 all in ,including any shims that are needed. theres places that would charge near double that but id reckon the norm is about 160-180 for a clearance check and more if the cams gotta come out to change shims. shims themselves can go from 5 each to 12 euro each depending on the place ( im 5 each) ,ive seen zzrs take 10 shims .

air filter is washable on yours, plugs/oil/oil filter + fitting id guestimate at around 90 if done at same time , carb balance is something i wouldnt worry about untill you see how the bikes running after the clearances are done .
dunno how typical them prices for service and parts are though so ring around .

..typical breakdown ...

1. Valve clearance - 3 hrs labour €40 parts
2. Carb balance - 1/2 hr
3. Clutch (only investigation, I can hear kinda rattling sound from clutch but one bloke told me it might be becouse the carbs are not balanced) - 1/2/hr
3. Oil and filter change - 1 hr €40

lab = 175
parts = €80
plus vat
tot = call it an even €300

That's a good price for the valves. She's a time consuming job. Oil and filter's a job you can do yourself (and should be doing quite regularly) but if it's going in for the valves, it makes sense to get all the jobs done together. Chopper will advise you on how frequently you should be changing the oil.

that's a very unorthodox attitude. for years, in ireland, it's been oh let's jack up the price, that'll make me more money! gosh i'm so clever!

fair dues to ya
