Default beware of deer

I was rounding a bend on a narrow, twisty road near Enniskerry, when I encountered two deer right in front of me, time was 10 am. They were young deer, obviously no experience of traffic, so they did not know how to react. They froze as I approached them, but just in the nick of time, they darted off uphill, no harm done to man or beast, thankfully however I heard of an incident near Laragh, yesterday which involved a deer, unfortunately the result was a wrecked bike, and an injured rider. The rural areas of Wicklow seem to have a lot of young deer this time of year, so just be aware of this... its one more of a long list of hazards that we are vulnerable to.

Read somewhere that the deer population is out of control and a serious cull is required.

Thing with hitting a deer is, your insurance won't cover repairs, or injury (to rider).

Deer are ace!
Last week one of them literally jumped over the front of my bike. Its back legs were about 2 inches from my visor. Fuck knows how I missed it.

Had a very close miss with a pair of them in the cage one night up Kilmacanogue too. Came out of the trees and right across the road in front of me. Still no idea how we didn't hit each other

the mad thing about deer is they will do the complete opposite to what you think they will do. Had deer on the left hand verge suddenly deciding that the opposite side of the road is where they are going to go. There was a vid out there a few years back where a startled deer jumped into the back of a pick up truck rather than run away from it.
if you see them on the road best thing to do is stop if its safe to do so, if not slow down and expect the unexpected.

When I lived in England years back lived near a place where you would see deer on the road every single morning, they might look lightweight but seen many a car almost written off by them. Actually saw one jump clean over the bonnet of a car that was doing about 50 mph. totally mad feckers.

I believe there are weekly crashes on the M8 Cahir bypass involving deer where the deer leave the scene after totalling a vehicle. Tow truck owners in Kilworth and mitchelstown do very well out of them.

That's what happened in the Laragh incident.. the deer darted across, then changed his mind and doubled back straight into the path of the bike.. unpredictable animals, definitely best policy is to stop. I think it was Liam Neeson a few years ago had a deer land on him while riding his Harley ..?

Had a proper close one with a big bastard of a black deer this evening. I was zipping past Lamb Doyle's and a big huar of a black deer decided to cross the road. It was dark and it's a poorly lit area....just a heads up to any lads in that area.
