Default Renewing 3rd learner permit

Well lads.
Was in an accident 2 years and haven't touched a bike since but wanna try get back on them again.
My licence expired in 2016 and I failed the driving test in 2015.
I just checked on what I need to renew and saw it said about failing a test within 2 years. Didn't know about the 2 year thing.
Would the failure from 2015 be OK since the licence has been out of date since 2016?
Or do I need to book a test then renew my permit?

book test for a date you cant make in the future, then ask for a refund after getting another permit stating the day in question doesnt suit due to other plan. i was told to do this by the ndls themselves as i needed to renew to do my progression module and didnt need the test.

As above, the test date to be given shouldl be to the future, not a past failure.

Sound lads so I'll book the test, renew permit then cancel the test?
One question on insurance.
My claim is still open, other party at fault.
Would I get insurance with anyone? Or does my old insurer be the only one to quote me?

Since we're talking delicate matters here, I've a hypothetical dilemma. Say a friend has a foreign (EU) issued B cat license for ages (1 mil+ km) and holds a separate Irish issued L permit for A cat. Now, said friend might have been driving a car over the speed limit somewhere in the countryside. He was stopped and realized he didn't have the B license on him so produced the A license to prove ID and address, agreeing to show the proper license at his local garda station. Was told the fun is worth a few points and a fistful of yoyos. In the given situation, how will the points affect the motorcycle license?

Just take the test and pass it. A 12 year old child could pass it FFS!

That's a different issue. Question is ...since they are 2 separate pieces of plastic issued in separate countries, will the points for driving a car affect the bike license?

points are points, did they not change something here a few years ago to stop that and make points a personal thing rather than the bit of plastic, could be wrong

Question is what we had with a speeding motorist producing an English licence, in times past. Because there was no mutual agreement between the two countries the guards could not enforce penalty points. I believe the irl / gb loophole has been closed, I'd rather not bet anything with respect to any other euro country.

Well the Spanish police have confiscated the license of a biker doing silly speeds on the motorway canceled it with a large stamp and sent it back directly to the driving license authority here in Ireland.

I know for fact this has happened with the Spanish police and heard a similar story about a British license canceled by the french police from an old friend in England.

You would have to assume that with the euro license and the homoglisation (or what ever they call it) of the driving tests that all the EU countries are sharing license information and have the ability to put points on another country's license.

If its a British license your talking about, I guess you better start praying for a Brexit with hard borders

Thank you, kind sir. I don't mind getting points on the foreign car license. I am just thinking whether or not it will affect the bike license issued here. I.e. when renewing insurance, would i tell them i got points- since they are not on the bike permit? I only drive the bike, weekends when i drive a rental car to visit places are few and rare.

I'll definitely recommend that you sort out your permit and invest some money to do the I.B.T. or a refresher course back again, this will ease your return to biking and help you to pass the test.

Then, pass the freaking test. Not rocket science :)

Lying to an insurance company always ends well...

Yep doing lgbt again for A licence but obviously need a permit before I can do it.
Yep failed as I'm a Legend, ps. I love you X with nerves
Accident wasn't my fault ,can't control what other cages do
Defo doing the test at some stage was just wondering was the easiest way to get the permit as didn't want a test date soon and I didn't get time to practice.
And fuck up and fail again

It's OK to be nervous, but if you practice enough and pay attention you should be OK.

Hope you can sort it out and get back to biking soon
