Default eToll for bikes?

Hey guys, was just wondering, since it's a pain to pay in cash when passing an eToll barrier on a bike.
Stop, lift visor, take off gloves, one falls, desperately search for coins, everybody already swearing behind you, give the money, one coin falls, so put the sidestand, get off the bike, look for the coin, find the coin, give the coin, get back on the bike, s..t you've forgotten the glove, get off again, pick up the glove, put them on again, and off you go, total time 3 hours.

Soooo... do any of the tag providers support motorcycles? I have an Eflow account and tag for my car, but they said they don't do tags for bikes because bikes don't pay for the M50 (duh!). What if I want a tag for the other toll roads?

Thanks!

Have an Easytrip tag for bike no looking for cash - mounted on screen but works in breast pocket as well

Go through the gap in the middle in the lorry lane. Most of them have a gap that you can easily fit through. Did it many times, nothing ever came of it. Started doing that after the cashier wouldn't accept my card and delayed me for 10 minutes by having to call someone and call out the card numbers for 1 fucking euro. Build up a massive queue behind me. Fuck them, sat there for 10 minutes thinking why I didn't just go through the massive gap that didn't even have a barrier. Most of the times I don't pay when it's raining because fuck taking off wet gloves and faffing around for 5 minutes trying to put them back on just so I can feed their greed. Happened twice that that I went through the cashier and the lady just opened the barrier for me without taking the payment. There should be more people like her in the world. Instead of Legend, ps. I love you Xs trying to fuck up your life in every way possible.

I've noticed that, more often than not, a cage will pull up behind me while I am fishing out the change for the toll at one of the 'exact change' lanes. The other two exact change lanes could be free & in service, yet they still pull up behind the biker - anyone else notice this?

jeez what a faff, i usually keep a euro coin under the flap on the filler cap, easy to get even with gloves on.

on the bikes without a flap on the filler cap i have a bulldog clip bolted to the bar mirror mount, can put two euro coins in that, again easy to get with gloves on, and believe it or not, ive never had a euro nicked off the bike!!

+1 for this!

There is a proposal to let electric cages go toll free. If they can do that to promote electric cages, why shouldn't they do the same for the tiny fraction of us motorcyclists out there - we help the environment by reducing the wear and tear, not contributing to traffic congestion etc etc. They really should consider making motorbikes toll free (like M50 and East Link).

Bikes should be free, it's not like we're a massive source of profit to them.

Wonder could you get figures from the toll companies under the Freedom of Information act?

As mentioned
https://www.easytrip.ie/
Support tags for bikes

There is advice though, even with a tag, not to use the express lanes on the N4 / N7 et al, as the sensors might not recognise the bike and lift the barrier in time, and that'd be no fun at all.

Take all the time you need, they might eventually get the message and allow bikes through for free.

Thank you all lads! I'll check Easytrip, they seem to be the only tag providers which provide tags for motorbikes.

I sense a bit of unhappiness towards toll roads here
If that makes you feel better, imagine that in Italian highways motorbikes pay as much as cars. And highways there are NOT cheap. The fuckers!

+1.

Some facts:

Not our fault there's a toll booth.

PPE is all part of riding a bike.

A bike paying a toll takes longer than a car.

Tough shit for anyone behind - again, not our fault.

Bikes should be free through tolls.

Do they not follow up based on number plate for not paying?

I went thru M3 toll once - first time on that road and I wasn't planning on going thru the toll and whatever coins I had was not enough - threw them in the bucket and went around the barrier trying to look somewhat apologetic They never followed up.

I'll bite (just for the sake of it): Why ?

Why should we get special treatment at tolls etc?

Ultimately, it's an honest question - what's so special about motorbikes compared to any other mode of personal transport that should exempt us from tolls?

(It's the first question I get asked when I approach toll operators with a MAG hat on - so let's see what responses we get on here !)

I stick euro coins on to the top yoke with blu-tac, then I don't need to take gloves off.
It does mean that sometimes they get a bit of blu-tac with the money though....
I've done this loads as I was working in the UK for a couple of years and commuting to and from Cork every couple of weeks.
I've never lost a coin, even in heavy rain, but I do have the advantage of a fairing, so they only really get exposed to rain when at a standstill.
