Default So many top end bikes now on Irish roads .

Outside of biking as a cheap way of commuting from A to B , Lately looking around at bike runs , rallyís , Bike meetings/ festivals etc . The seriously expensive hardware thatís present as in 15 k plus bikes of all different manufacturers. Is this a golden age of biking as we can finally afford these bikes or is it all PCP etc . Just curious thatís all no judgement

If you look at what a small family hatchback costs, then it doesn't seem that expensive.

PCP- .makes things seem cheap but you pay a small amount every month for the rest of your life. . .prefer buying cash myself, it that means I can never have a brand new bike no big deal

When you think about it 100 quid a week for 4 years is 20 odd k. Not that out of reach for folks with decent jobs I'd say. Ps I'm trying to justify it to myself at the minute

Most lads were traditionally hen-pecked into having a fresh car for the Irish equivalent of a bookface selfie down thru the years ; Mass on Sunday, and keeping up with the jones next door, then spending whateverís left over on a cheap/shit bike,. Maybe priorities are changing and theyíre finally seeing sense.

Have been turning over a bike approx every 2 years. Buy something decent secondhand around the 4 - 5k mark, every month when paycheck arrives add/improve it and move it on when I get bored. Usually bike is got rid of just as I make it "perfect" , at least for me
Financially it makes no sense at all and dont want to even think of how much money I have sunk into bikes over the years.
Couldnt contemplate pcp as I wouldnt fancy being tied into a particular brand for the forseeable. Can see the attraction of it though...

Funny I was out with my mate for a spin in Wicklow yesterday and we were saying the exact opposite. The absolute state of most of the bikes going around, don't look exactly safe.

Plus insurance, tax and service cost, if lucky you'll be able to afford 1 tank of petrol every 2 months.
And the final payment at the end or if you don't have that you get a new bike and another 5 years in the financial maximum security slammer
