Default Vfr1200 are they any craic like?

I will admit when Honda released the vfr1200 I fucking hated it, now a few years on and they are very much growing on me.
Maybe I hit my head or am just getting old man syndrome.

Now I think they look good, a v4 1200cc sounds fun in theory, they are a sprorts tourer so should commute and tour well.

But are they any craic?
Brakes any good?

Mcn seems to be giving very meh reviews... but sometimes them lads are full of shite.
Has time been kinder to the vfr1200 than the initial mce review.

Thinking of replacing the blackbird with one.... but its got big shoes to fill!

Any owners views welcome.

Had one and absolutely hated it...
Engine was the only redeeming feature...

Way too heavy and doesn't carry it well...

Woeful suspension, whatever I tried just couldn't get it dialled in...

Terrible ergonomics and a plank for a seat...

Thirsty engine + small tank = a pain in the bollix...

Some folks love them, maybe I'm just weird...

Definitely try before you buy...

Bought a 2015 0ne with all the bells and whistles from PHILLIP Mc CALLANS... Had it about three weeks before i decided to sell it, very heavy and vague front end, tight stuff in the wet was an awful feeling, not for me, because of condition it sold quickly back in mc callens......dont do it..

see post #10 in the linky below
theres a good few for sale, looking the same money i got for mine well over 3 years ago,
the 2013 with the traction control would be a better bike and should have the issues of the 2010 to 2012 model sorted out, but they are getting rarer

i rode a blackbird a few times and couldn't get on with it, i prefered the riding position of the vfr 1200

http://www.biker.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=228472

do your research, the forum in the link below is worth a look, check out K5 Dave thread for good info

https://vfr.bikersoracle.com/index.php
however
i've owned a few bikes, and of all of them, the vfr 1200 is one i wouldn't buy again

Had a spin on one and while it was good craic the blackbird would absolutely whoop it on pretty much every level bar the fact its got an obviously more modern feel to it.

True, had a spin on both & couldn't help feeling Honda had missed a trick: VFR motor in a Blackbird-type package...

Was yours the early pre-2012 model? Lots of changes to make the newer ones better, including a fully revised seat, better fueling, and traction control.

Same here, am replacing the blackbird and was looking at buying one of these, however anyone I've spoke to who has had one has said steer clear. Suspension, fueling and running on in corners has been put forward as reasons, also for tight filtering the position of the handlebars gets your hand stuck between them and the tank

Had a 2012 one here last year belong to a customer and he told me to ride it so I took it for a whip into town and back one day. About an hours riding, and it surprised me. Had a new loud pipe and a few mods and was good fun to be truthful. Big and heavy alright but well able to boogy. Handled pretty well too. Would I buy one? Na, I'd be looking at a Multi Strada instead. Lifes too short.

Sounds like the Blackbird is alot more fun and lighter.
I cant beleive most people dont like them and most owners shifted them on in a relitively short time.

It seems they are a capable machine, the early ones have issues and the later model seems to have addressed them but still not entirely a decent replacement for the Blackbird.

As regards the Bmw not my cuppa.

The z1000sx might be an option?

I have a 2011 VFR 1200 and I love getting out on it. Have put about 10k miles on her over 12 months. What’s to like - quick, solid & stable at speed, good handling, great brakes & comfy. I changed the seat, screen and exhaust. Small tank range of 18L will see me on reserve at 240kmhs, over 300 kmhs to empty. Mines a dual clutch and it’s fugging brilliant - shifts like shit off a shovel.I only use the manual input, up/ down through the box, moto gp style. I will say it’s taken me a while to get used to it but now that I have, I’m not sure what I’d change her for. Like it is for you, all the reviews I saw were mixed about the bike but I took the plunge and am glad I did.:smileee
