Full licence for 36 years, max NCB - 18 years, not interested in paying over the odds.
point is UK accept full NCB, what about RoI?

4 insurers in RoI, and no, normal RoI residents cannot avail of out of country insurers (incl NI). Something to do with the insurers required to have an office in the state, or some such bs.

You'll need to bring a certificate stating your NCB (I think), but it should be recognised here (if not, get on to the insurance ombudsman )

There are two problems here:

- if you bring a foreign bike (let's say from Germany or Barcelona - where i'm from), you have to register it within 24h unless if you plan to live here (temporarely or permanently).

- then if you register your bike, your insurance company won't cover it as you'll have an irish plate.

- If you buy an irish bike here it's the same thing: companies abroad won't insure your bike. I haven't been able to find one single company that would insure any irish bike.

Only Irish or UK insurance companies are ok and not all the UK companies!

By the way, I'm already looking for irish quotes and they are crazy ... well, I guess that's life!

Quinn direct has given me a quote for 1.200 and Carol Nash 610. isn't it strange that quote is the double??
Carol Nash even asked me how much was Quinn direct insurance before giving me the quote. I said 700 but I wonder what would've happened if I said 400.
Strange way of dealing with "professionals", don't you think?

Well I got some quotes, but they differ extremely:

Adelaide/Bike-quote-me 254 third party fire theft but only available from July onwards

Quinn; 1900, no ncb accepted considered rookie driver
C.Nash: 2460 no ncb, rookie as well

Allianz: 690, ncb accepted but third party only and proof of garage needed

for how long can I keep my German plates??

Well, I don't think your actual german insurance company would find out whether you're lvining or just visiting the island... ...unless you have an accident, of course.

At the moment, i'm driving my spanish car with no problem... but as soon as I get a job here, I'll have to register & insure my car "legally" with an Irish insurance company. At present, I'm fully covered but only as a tourist!

Well, Adelaide doesn't sound that bad, isn't it? Why from july onwards? What happens on july?

As regards your question: if you're planning to stay here (work) only 24h!! if you're visiting (as a tourist), then I don't know... I'd say 3 to 6 months, but I'm only guessing!

Look on the bright side of the story... it might be expensive to insure bikes, but you get to live in a great country! ... and salaries are higher than home (at least higher that Barcelona!!)

(no sun though: )
