Default Mechanics in Waterford this Sunday?

Hi there,

I have been in contact with a private seller over the sale of a 1996 Honda Hornet 250 located in Waterford. I am brand new to this scene and I'm looking for my first bike.

I have little mechanical knowledge of bikes so I am asking if anyone could put me in contact with someone who would come and look at the bike and be able to tell me whether I should run from the bike or not. This is a last-ditch effort.

If anyone knows anyone that could help I would be very appreciative.

Many thanks

Give Marcus Doherty on Mayors Walk a bell and see if he'll help. (051)854052

According to the ad you have already bought it. Looks nice enough part from the hideous looking painted heatsheild on the exhaust.
Did you haggle the price at all?

I haven't bough it yet, the lad is holding it for me which is very sound of him. I'm just in search of someone who can give it their assessment. Looking for all the help I can get here.

I'm looking to get my A2 licence so I'd have to restrict an SV650. Was looking to get something around the 250cc range as a first bike

Thanks very much for your help. Yeah the age of the bike is a big factor so I have so hesitations. I'll try and arrange Doherty Motorcycles to have a look at the bike for me, thanks!

How badly do you want a 22 year old Hornet 250?

The mileage is low and it looks in very good condition but you are setting yourself up for a fair whack of depreciation if you try to trade it in in a year or two. I'll sell you a really nice 93 FireBlade for that money but I doubt you'll get insurance on it...

I would love to have a Hornet 250 as my first bike. You're right, it does look in good nick but I have no experience/knowledge to back that up.

The price is negotiable but is even spend over 2,000 a bit much?

All I need to know is if the bike is running well and has no mechanical/electrical damage.

I know that those issues will be difficult to deduct from a quick look at the bike and issues may come to rise in a few months, but how likely is it to collapse on the journey home? Surely if it has been taking care of I should be good to go?
