Default Crap light on a BMW F800GS

Hi, ride a BMW F800 GS since May, Really like the riding position, it seems a real work horse, can't really fault it beside the fact that I don't like it as much as my old Tiger 800XC.. that triple engine is sooooo sweeeeet.

The single most annoying thing about this bike is the awful light. Can't see shit with it now that it gets darker... even on full beam... the light is too spread sideways and so can't much ahead.

Getting LED auxiliary added to it in the hope to fix that but is it just me or is that the case with all of these bikes? mine is a 09 so not a LED front light.

Thx for sharing ur findings.

can be temperamental and cut out easily on bumpy roads unless you buy an exceptionally expensive kit, dependent on bulb setup may not be suitable for high beam.

Sometimes you have to spend to get a decent product.

Another option is to install some spot lights.

Captain obvious here... did you make sure that the light is properly regulated and that the lens is clean both inside out?

The design of the light is pretty straight forward so I imagine that it should do the job just fine. As you load/unload the bike the geometry could change getting the light out of alignment and might be point pointing either too high or too low...

Just an idea before you start spending money :)

To answer the question, the AUX lights will help a lot.

Germans don't make lights for dark roads. They don't have any. Their cages are as bad.

LED h4 replacement kit in an mt03 light (dip beam) . before this the light was pathetic now i just leave it on dip beam, i rarely use main beam. I dont get oncoming lights flashing either.

I think the reflector and lens design will determine if an LED upgrade will work well or not. I tried a well recommended LED H4 replacement lamp in a Dominator type headlight and while it looked brighter, was worse at illuminating the road and especially the sides of the road, than the standard 60/55 W H4 halogen. On dip beam, it looked brighter from an oncoming vehicle POV, which i didn't like. I sent it back and was refunded, no questions asked.

It was a few years ago, and I don't remember the brand. They could have improved a lot since then. They might still not be strictly legal without self leveling if that bothers you.
