irish road races flag Assen BSB: Kennedy beats Currie to Supersport pole

The Dubliner had something to say to his championship rival as he beat both the Aussie and the Wee Warble to pole position.

Jumpin Jack Flash has stamped his authority on the Dickies British Supersport championship as he beat series rival Ben Currie to pole position by nearly half a second.

With one round remaining after Assen as he chases his first series title, the Integro Yamaha rider stuck in a late 1’38 to go under the race record and qualify first ahead of this afternoon’s sprint race.

Kennedy was the first to lay down a quick lap as he set a 1’40.963, while Currie slotted into second less than 0.060s adrift.

But it was a short-lived reign for the Dubliner as Seeley stuck in a 1’40.217 with just over five minutes complete before beating his time down even further to a 1’39.397 a few minutes later.

Points leader Kennedy wasn’t finished, however, as he went almost half a second quicker than title rival Currie as the two championship protagonists pushed Seeley back to third with under five minutes remaining.

EHA Racing’s David Allingham heads up the second row of the grid beside Everquip man James Rispoli and Movuno.com
Halsall Racing’s Kyle Ryde.

Kennedy only needs to finish 6th or better in the next race to clinch the championship, a DNF yesterday with Seeley trying to run him off track would not have been good, especially with his recent injuries, and having already lost the title by a very small margin on the last meeting to Glen Richards due to mechanical failure a few years back, I'd say it weighed heavily on his mind..

Race two at Brands should be interesting against the wee-warble once Jack has got nothing to lose.

( There's talk about Scott Redding taking Irwin's spot, but I reckon Paul Bird will sign him up next year to run along with Shakey )

The Chicken rancher drops Shakey for 2019 and signs Scott Redding, already talk of Brookes running along side on the new V4 Ducati, Maybe Bryne will call it a day and stick to commentating, but I doubt it.

be interesting to see how scott goes, all new circuits to him, could struggle on some of the narrow ones... when Kiyonari first went to cadwell he though he was driving up pitlane to get on track whilst actually on the race track
giugliano struggled there coming from WSB, and the ex wsb champ guintoli was getting his ass handed to him by his rookie team mate...
then again hopper came and went while first time around so ya never know, but he use to superbike, scott came up through the gp ranks.. should be interesting

imagine the war between bird and brookes if things didnt go well . 2 voicetress cnuts, probably come to blows in pit lane
brookes + birds bikes = winning package though.. brookes use to say shakey always on the best bikes, when struggling against him on the tyco gixxers and in fairness hes probably right, birds bikes been strongest on grid in recent years. all shakeys 6 titles are with bird,,

That's a fair point about Redding coming to BSB.

Hopper was the only one from a top world championship that came in and got quick off the mark. Then again, Hopper came up through the US road racing scene where decent bike oriented tracks are few and far between and they race on some fairly shit facilities.

Have to agree though, PBM generally seems to get the best from bikes, and the JG Speedfit squad seems to have benefited from a lot of parallel development with KRT.

Ducati seem to be keen to get the Pani V4 developed as quickly as possible and so might supply it far and wide as the Pani V2 is the only top marque in recent years not win WSBK.

It is rumoured that SMR are looking at either the new BMW or the Pani V4 for next year with Laverty staying on and Savadore getting the P45 for AN Other.

I know which on e I'd go for.

Default Brookes switches to Be Wiser Ducati for BSB 2019

Former Bennetts British Superbike Champion Josh Brookes has signed a one-year deal to join Paul Bird’s Be Wiser Ducati team for 2019 in a move that will being fresh challenges for the Australian.

Brookes has spent the last two years on his favoured Yamaha R1 after a year-long sojurn in WorldSBK but has taken the plunge and changed to the team he has battled with the most in BSB.

“The team have set the benchmark in BSB for as long as I have been racing in it and I’ve always been a thorn in their side,” said Brookes

“While Shakey was there, it didn’t seem like an environment where two top riders would sit side by side. In the seasons where I was looking for a ride or looking for what could be available, it seemed like those were the years when Shakey and Paul had already done a deal, so it never really materialised.

“There had never really been a good time to talk but this year, things changed and I had a chat with Paul. I was fed up with where I was, I’ve always had a lot of faith in the Yamaha and where it should go and that wasn’t being achieved.

“The situation I was in came to a natural end and the opportunity with Paul came with good timing, so it seemed right to give it a go.”
