Default HELP, Back biking after long break

Hi Guys, this is my first post and i am running in circles trying to find help on google.

i have previously had a provisional bike license, this has long since expired, renewed maybe 7 years ago, I am trying to get back onto bikes now through applying for my A license learners permit.

Is it required that i re-sit a theory test(i have a full car license). My original bike license was got in maybe 200 for a moped, and renewed in 2011 for a <125cc and then let go out of date. I know i have to complete an lgbt for my A to be roadworthy, but id hate to re-sit a theory test especially with a lack of the new 'social services card'.

Any help would be great, i have a bike at home that needs to be ridden.

I reckon you'll need to do the theory test alright, as you are going for a different category from the full license you have for the cage.
I had to do the theory test when I was going for my cage learner permit, even though I have had full A license for years (never had to do theory test for that), so I reckon you will.

You shouldn't have to do a theory test if you have a cage licence as the rules of the road don't change , well not much anyway

Unfortunately government and its departments rarely make sense.

He will definitely have to do the theory test. I had a full cage license, driving for 25 years, never a claim on my insurance, never any penalty oints on the license, still had to do it.

What I would say to DJPscales is dont sally in to do the theory test without studying for it, no matter how good a driver you are or how much experience you have. Some of the questions will catch anyone who hasnt studied the book.

For instance can you tell me the stopping distance at 100 kph?
a) 60m
b) 71m
c) 77m
d) 85 m

I guarantee 99% of the people on this site could not answer that question, no matter how experienced without looking it up.
Some of the questions you just have to learn parrot fashion.

There is a CD you can buy to help with the study and it is well worth the money.

BTW, even after studying, using the CD, with 25 years of driving I still only got 37 out of 40. Think the pass mark is 35 or 36, so it just goes to show how easy it is to fail the theory test simply because you didnt memorise some of the answers

Ive another nightmare to deal with now, i haven't gotten that new public services card either, so i have to leave work Friday to get that, to in turn book the theory test for the 26th, take work off again to apply with the NDLS for a permit.......BEFORE i fork out 540e for an lgbt.

The bike needs a new set of tyres and there is a 180/55 on the back so would have to wait to driver her anyway:)

cheers lads, all this 'legal' biking stuff better pay off.

Don't forget eye test and perhaps a medical also.
You won't be getting much change out of a grand if not more
When you add in pre tests, actual tests etc,the pay for a full licence once you pass.money making racket ffs but is money well spent.also 6 month rule will apply here also,so at least oct this year be four you can sit a full test

I did the bike theory test without studying for it, figuring if I was meant to have a bike I'd pass it. 35/40 haha. Best of luck!

I done my car theory in 2004, back then it was all the one so when I went to enquire about it by ringing the RSA they told me I had to do the theory for the bike, but I could tell by the operators uncertainty that he was unsure.

I rang up again the next day and was told pre 2006 theory test holders for a car do not need to sit a bike theory and she was right I simply went to ndls and applied for my learner which I got in the post. Dont waste 35 euro on another theory.
