Question Was I stopped by the Stig???

On the way into work yesterday I took a perfectly illegal and barefaced left turn. Imagine my surprise when rounding the corner, straightening the bike and wonderfully avoiding the Luas lines when I saw parked, very cleverly, a Garda jeep, just wafting for schmuck like me. The Garda driving disembarked with some degree of alacrity and stopped me. No surprises there. As is so often the case when stopped by the police, especially when caught red-faced in an illegal manoeuvre, I was dumbstruck. Actually that’s no true, dumbstruck would have been better. No, I began to babble, half admissions [couldn’t very well deny it!] and half excuses. He listened to me patiently, a small smile playing about his lips as he toyed with the poor lamp and eventually, before I melted into a puddle of babble and twitter, he let me go with a caution – a dacent man. It was only later in the day that it clicked with me that during our conversation [I say conversation but really he spoke and I stuttered brain farts out my mouth] he mentioned that he had a bike. Mmmh? Then later that evening, as I wended my weary way home after work, observing every rule of the road I had ever learned [and making up some new ones of my own just to be sure] a niggling doubt rose to the surface of my mind. Could that dacent polis-man have been the Stig? Nah! Couldn’t be … could it? Nah. Just my over active imagination. Guess I’ll never know. And before you ask, I went around the long way this morning. No more sneaky lefties ‘til I get over the shock .

Oh what a paranoid biker you are? Imagine if all the good citizens [instead of just the scroats] felt the same way about the Guards ? Anyway I believe that one good turn deserves another so I’ll be extra nice to the next traffic cop that stops me. These boards a just a bit of crack and I think the Stig has a sense of humour so relax and enjoy the slagging – ‘cos you can certainly dish it out.

An’ yeah – STOP SHOUTING!

He said it was an illegal LEFT turn. Hard to imagine left turns being illegal unless it's the wrong was into a one-way street. Maybe things are different in the big smoke!

I think I may have dropped something in me leathers alright – that could account for the “wafting”, it could be that I meant “waiting” but wafting is so much better in the circumstances!
