Ahh jaysus, you'd have the chain sprayed with wd40 - wiped off and lube/waxed before the pipes are even hooked up on that contraption, some lads just love fooking around with gadgets.

Get some chain cleaner or even brake cleaner works very well, with a rag. If you want to avoid the rag, get whats called a Grunge brush, 3 sided brush that works well for cleaning a chain, I use them.
Also, look at getting a scottoiler, handy piece of kit to have if you do serious mileage like I do, over 1,000km a week on the bike, just top up the scottoiler whenever its low and it oils the chain as you go

Ha, exactly. Thats kinda what I meant by overkill. It is slightly less messy though but a total faff to set it up. I only use it for the cleaning as I have a Scotoiler that does the other bit

So yes, I love a gadget
