Welcome mate!
I used to share a house with a lad from RSA - he was from Ganubie down near the Cape.

Howzit my china! Where abouts in SA are you from?

Check selling prices of those Beemers in SA vs 2nd hand prices over here for same. Could be a huge difference, making more sense to sell there and buy here.

And thanks for the reminder to make more biltong!

Howzit Dub Duke, from Pretoria, moving to Naas / Newbridge area, lived there for 6 years until 2009 - I checked prices but mine has a few extras and normally you don't get the value for it when you sell. Got a few quotes for shipping and it's not tooo bad...

Welcome to the site and Ireland when you come over. I'm originally from Pietermaritzburg; moved here in 2001.

I know what you mean about extras. You will have to pay VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) and possibly VAT (because importing from outside the EU), so check that.

Perhaps worth a quick look:

https://www.donedeal.ie/motorbikes/BMW/R1200

- for indicative Ireland prices

https://www.gumtree.co.za/s-motorcyc...00/v1c9027q0p1

- indicative SA prices

Don't bitch when you get here and find you've paid over the odds!

Good luck and let us know when you get here.

He shouldn't have to pay VRT as long as he has proof of ownership for at least 6 months before importing, at least that is how it used to be
