irish road races flag Laverty scores new V4 Ducati ride for 2019

Although yet to be officially announced by Shaun Muir, Tom Sykes is believed to have signed up to join his team alongside Markus Reiterberger on works BMWs for the 2019 WorldSBK series.

Click the image to open in full size.

The news leaves Eugene Laverty - whom many believed was sure to keep his seat - out looking for work at a very late stage in the seat-grabbing process and only the second Red Bull Honda is available. Well, it’s the only available one worth having.

Sykes has secured the BMW job after being moved out of the Kawasaki team to make room for Leon Haslam. It had been thought his wage demands had been too high for Muir’s operation but a late deal has been struck.

Laverty will be in a queue, albeit at the front, for the second Honda job and big chief Chris Pike will be able to drive down wages due to the demand. Pike will also have Loris Baz, Lorenzo Savadori, Marco Melandri, Jordi Torres, Xavi Fores and several others all battering down his door for the last decent seat.

It’s a tough gig for the Irishman, who has been unable to make the Aprilia work consistently despite there being a huge amount of turd polishing by his crew, led by long-time crew chief Phil Marron - who may well remain with SMR as he needs to pay the bills.

Back to British Superbikes with him? The Hondas are a bit of a joke at the minute what good would it do him to be tipping around mid pack

I suspect its nothing to do with luck. Its about bike sale in Ireland I reckon. He is as good as any of them with a decent bike under his arse.

But flag is the problem for the big manufactures.

The will sell a whole lot more machines with Sykes riding them.

Thats my theory anyway.

great news for laverty. but lets be honest her guys . i know hes flying the irish flag. but he wont win any championship on a satelite bike. needs to move to a factory team to have any chance of being competitive.

Ireland’s Eugene Laverty will have to wait until well into the New Year for his first taste of Panigale V4 power.

Click the image to open in full size.

His Go Eleven WorldSBK team, as well as British Superbike squads, will not receive their customer bikes until at least January.

It means that Laverty will be somewhat behind when it comes to the Phillip Island pre-season but test but he is impressed with the times being stamped by Chaz Davies and Alvaro Bautista at Jerez.
“It will be a long wait until I get to try the new Ducati V4 R but the lap times of Chaz and Alvaro yesterday made me smile. Both are well and truly on the pace and it excites me knowing that one of those two bikes will be wheeled into our garage come January,”
said Norge.
