Motorbike: To be decided
Default Long time listener, first time caller.

Well lads,

Said I'd go about introducing myself here, been thinking about starting to ride for a while now and think I'm ready to hop on two wheels. Theory booked for next week and will be looking to book lgbt after that. Any recommendations? Based in swords in Dublin.

Haven't said anything thing to the folks yet no doubt they won't be too pleased. How did yous get on with telling partners/parents?

Have lurked through lots of the forums but any tips for first bike and new riders in general would be appreciated. Looking at something that I can sit my A test on so 600cc.

Its always better to ask forgiveness than to seek permission. Do more lessons than you think you need and then do some advanced training after you have passed your test - this shows people you are serious about your safety. Buy decent safety gear and wear it.

Welcome to

Lots of choices out there. Any of the 4-cylinder 600 or 650cc Japanese
standard road bikes should serve you well. I bought a Bandit GSF650SA K6
when I was doing I_B_T. Six years on, it has been reliable, cheap and
relatively easy to service. You might also consider the Yamaha Fazer 600
or the many variants of the Honda CB600 (not the RR sports model).
Always get a couple of quotes for insurance BEFORE you buy a bike.
Try for size to make sure it is a good fit.

Me dad is a biker, me mam was a biker and still rides pillion, my dad in law was a biker, I'm a biker, my missus has thrown the leg over a couple and my daughter wont stop pestering me about getting a bike... I never had the difficulty of asking for permission, it was just a natural fact. Like almost everything, FEAR of the unknown, False Expectations Appear Real. You're a big boy now, time to start a legacy!

And welcome, it's an absolute hoot on a scoot. More smiles per mile, you don't stop with a chop! 2 Strokes for good folks and if it can do 3 times the national speed limit, PROVE IT!
