Default Hutchy re-united with Padgett's Honda for North West 200

Ian Hutchinson will be re-united with the Padgett’s Honda team for this year’s North West 200 which begins this evening.

Hutchinson, who won five Isle of Man TT races in a week with the Batley-based outfit, adds the Supersport machines to the factory Honda Fireblades he will ride in the litre-bike classes.
“Originally I had planned to ride with the Honda Racing team in all three races but because I didn’t know until just two weeks ago that I would be able to race, those plans changed,”
said Hutchinson.

“Clive’s circumstances had also changed with Bruce Anstey not riding this year so we were able to get the deal sorted.

The 2018 North West 200 will mark Ian Hutchinson’s return to the roads after breaking his left leg in a crash during last year’s Senior TT.
“Tuesday practice will be steady but it will tell me where I am at with everything,” the Bingley man said. “I haven’t walked for almost 11 months so I need to try to keep progressing in small steps.”

Can someone explain why some riders will only race on certain tracks or are only competitive on them.

Example Alistair Seeley dominant in the NW, does he even ride the TT? Never see him do v well at other races, same with Glenn Irwin in the NW but then not at TT

Derek shields, dominant at Cookstown, will he enter the NW? Never seen him competitive there or the TT

Is it just some riders suit shorter tracks ?

Is it down to riders skills or preference?

That is some achievement by Hutchy to be standing with Clive for that photo considering the injury & recovery he's been through. A definition of determination & never give up right there.....good luck to Ian.

Default Re: Hutchy re-united with Padgett's Honda for North West 200

Honda’s Lee Johnston topped the opening Superbike qualifying practice sessions at the Vauxhall North West 200 today, heading Michael Dunlop by 2.7s in the big class.

Dunlop, who is racing for Tyco BMW this season, put in a 4’39.398 lap but couldn’t match Johnston’s Fireblade, which scorched round in 4’36.708

“Everything felt good with the bike and so do I,” said Johnston. “We still have to make changes, lots of changes, and we have very little data from last year so there is plenty of work to do with the bike. But I feel good in myself on the Honda.”

McAdoo Kawasaki’s James Cowton is third on a 4’44.106. Last year’s winner big race Glenn Irwin was fourth and a further half a second back on the Be Wiser Ducati.

The session was red-flagged after an incident at University which led to a 45-minute delay as Johan Fredriks was taken by air ambulance to hospital in Belfast.

James Hiller put his Quattro Kawasaki in fifth, one ahead of Conor Cummins, who is flying solo in the Superbike class as Bruce Anstey is in treatment for cancer. William Dunlop, on the Temple Golf R1, was was seventh, one place ahead of Irish roads specialist Derek McGee.

Martin Jessopp stuck his Riders BMW in ninth, Dan Kneen’s Tyco BMW was tenth and David Johnson’s Gulf BMW 11th.

The returning Ian Hutchinson placed 12th on the works Honda and is 15.5s off the pace with Fredriks next along. Davey Todd and Michael Rutter completed the top 15 with Nadieh Schoots in 19th place.

In the Supersport class, Dunlop headed brother William by 0.087s with Hiller in third place an only 0.741s back in a rain-interrupted session. Lee Johnston is fourth with Jessopp in fifth on the Triumph triple. Young gun Adam McLean placed sixth with Dan Kneen, Gary Johnson, Alastair Seeley and Michael Sweeney rounding out the top ten.

It's a BBC app for smart TVs.

You can watch the whole thing on the 'BBC Sport website' link above, which is the same as a eurosport player (with rewinds, FF, pause etc.) but only when the racing is live,. ie. all day tomorrow but there's no watching it 'on-demand' afterwards as the BBC iPlayer is region specific, unless you hire a UK proxy server.

thanks for that, that explains it - I was wondering why I was getting a message on the iplayer that content couldn't be played

Beautiful conditions greeted competitors for the North West 200 Road Races on Thursday with Martin Jessopp (Riders Motorcycles Kawasaki) claiming pole position for the Supertwins class, the first session of the day.

Getting underway at 10am, it was Jessopp who set the early pace,
his lap of 4m58.807s just over half a second clear of Adam McLean (Roy Hanna Motors Kawasaki), the duo the first two riders to lap under five minutes. Derek McGee was a further 1.5s adrift in third.

McLean responded on his fourth lap to edge ahead of Jessopp by a tenth of a second as McGee (IEG/KMR Kawasaki) maintained his third place with Joey Thompson moving up to fourth on the Paton.

Fifth time around and McLean went quicker still, a lap of 4m57.219s giving him a 1.5s advantage over Jessopp and another rider going quicker was James Cowton, the McAdoo Kawasaki rider taking over third place and also dipping below the five minute barrier.

McLean continued to get quicker with his sixth lap being 4m56.574s but Jessopp responded and he closed to within 0.272s of the Northern Irishman. And next time around the Yeovil rider, winner twelve months ago, seized the top spot by the slender margin of 0.038s.

McLean and Cowton had to settle for second and third with just 1.1s covering the front row and it was Thompson who ended up fourth as KMR Kawasaki team-mates McGee and Jeremy McWilliams took fifth and sixth.

Christian Elkin, Xavier Denis, Michael Sweeney and Darren Cooper completed the top ten.
