Default Very new to this lark.

Hi all.

Picked up my first bike back in February. Got the theory test out of the way and then the license and lgbt were sorted by the Easter weekend. Very fortunate the way the training worked out for me, had the full 18 hour 'A' course done within a week of starting it. Gary Hynes is da man!

Anyway, been getting as much saddle time as possible since, which ain't easy with life in general refusing to play ball for the most part. But so far it has been one long grin-inducing experience and I'm so feckin' glad that I finally got the gumption to just get off me arse and get the hurdles out of the way.

I've been fortunate to pick up a really nice & well minded SV650 as my first bike. It was near stock when I bought it but, while waiting for the bureaucracy to be dealt with, I gamely set about adding a few nice (to me at least) touches to it, to get it closer to my idea of a nice bike. I still have lots to fit, a ZXR14 rear shock, uprated springs and emulators, gaitors & a fender extender to the front end, straight Renthal bars, a Healtech gear indicator & a-TRE unit plus a few more odds & ends, all sitting here waiting patiently for me to get around to it.

Pics of the progress so far can be found in my garage.

Looking forward to a long and happy biking career!

Al the best,
Damien.

Thanks man, I'm a fan of the unfaired look myself. But I was surprised to discover that it is nicer/quieter/more comfortable to ride than the half-faired Fazer6 I did my training on. There was monumental turbulence from the screen on that thing.

I picked up the few bits to upgrade the suspension because the stock SV650 suspension was not designed with a 17 stone rider in mind. The ZXR14 shock has a spring rate that is much better suited to a man of my dimensions, is fully adjustable, a direct replacement and, by all accounts, compliments the uprated springs and emulator kit for the front forks. Which are woeful in terms of damping by the way. Even as a greenhorn I can tell that much. It bottoms out in one scenario and locks solid in the next. No point ending up the wrong side of a ditch because the bike turns into a pogo stick at the first sign of a ripple in the road.

You're not the first to say that, but I really do like it, always have. I'll be painting the front mudguard satin/matte black at some stage and playing around with the tape again. It may or may not feature in the final result.

Ah it's been a long time coming Robbie, but it was always on the cards. Been into bikes as long as I can remember, just never had the opportunity to take to the road until now.

Broke the track cage, bought the bike and a little 2 berth boat, so I'm certainly just as poor now as I was doing track days and time attack.

You still got the king of understeer??

Sound lad. Have your number saved to the phone. Sure if I'm free over the next while I'll give you a bell, the weekends are probably the best time for me to get out on the bike, I've the very odd weekday evening to play with but they're rare. Whereabouts are you hangin out these days?
