I got stopped or waved in should I say by a hair dryer dude on the N11 years ago and was done for 97 in a 60 zone, said he caught me on the slow down
2 points and 80 Euro, didn't see him until he more or less jumped out in front of me

That's what I thought and it is probably true but since he was able to show me 97 in a 60 and I know it is true I was caught slowing down I thought better to just pay the 80 and take the 2 points rather than end up in court

The new/er Laser type detectors have no problem locking on to pretty much anything. Certain amount of operator skill required.

This? Again?

Yes you are doomed. All motorcyclists give off a pheremone which the speed radar gun detects. This means they can completely bypass the traditional method of following you, requesting you stop, and taking your details so they can issue a fixed penalty notice.

Joking aside,
The "camera van" has a "camera" inside the "van" which records your speed, and a photo which is evidence of you speeding at that location.

The Garda sitting in a cage, chelsea tractor or even motorcycle does not have this technology. They have to follow you, stop you and issue the fixed penalty notice. They won't do this uness you are acting like a plonker. Or if your tax disk has fallen in front of your number plate, and they will follow you to draw your attention to this.

If your speedo says you were doing over 120, you werent. There is no such thing as the 125km/h limit.
Did you get your licence in a lucky bag?

Yep, got pinched this morning on the bike making my way to work by a member of the Traffic Corp with a speed gun.

I was only clearing her throat after trailing a jeep & trailer since leaving Portarlington at the start of the journey.

127km/h in an 80 zone. I know that sounds like a daft thing to do, but this section of road is runway wide and straight complete with hard shoulders. There's enough width to allow the use of a right turn lane at one point, without interfering with other traffic lanes. It's even wider than the 100km/h section of the same road that continues on into Tullamore.

I didn't argue any of that with the Garda though, apparently he was doing me a favour by letting me keep my provisional licence and only slapping me with 3 penalty points. Thought it best just to take my medicine. I was hoping that a polite exchange might see him let me go with a warning but I'll be expecting the official notice through the letterbox.

Actually, if he'd been in a position to nab me a few hundred metres earlier I'd probably be without a licence now. So there's that I suppose.

when you say new laser, do these produce a printout?

I have come across lasers in da distant past. Forward facing checkpoints. Upon being pulled over what he would produce would be a led display of mph/kph on da gun. All you would have is his word that da reading was taken from your cage and not another one. Any contesting on the roadside is an arresting offense, but waiting any later, ie, court is too fuckin late.

Notice for trolls, where there is a bend in da road, da plonkers view of your 'vehh-hiccle' can be eclipsed by another vehicle traveling alongside on da duel carriageway. Hence da purpose of ma question.

The legality of those no printout lasers could be challenged in da high court, but if ya had that sort of dosh ya would be better served buying a hellcat or similar, with a view to being there and gone before he is aware of ya.

As for your advice in dealing with the checkpoint. My milage is somewhat different. I still have somewhere all da written correspondence with the sty, they basically gave da FU and see ya in court routine.

At court with solicitor, da judge wanted to put it back as copper was no show. Solicitor said I was being represented by her and asked for strikeout, which in fairness she did get. Cost 250yoyos.

Long story short. I was obstructed in getting gun no. and they don't supply any calibration info whatsoever. You will obtain the cops no. upon asking but they usually are NOT worn on display as a usual rule.

If anyone has had different story, I'd be more than interested..

Ok off OP's original topic, but wasn't there a court case a few years back where the cage driver was fight ing that the gun wasn't calibrated. Turned out it hadn't been in about a year, however judge said it didn't matter and cops word was gold, cadger got Max penalty. Remember reading it and thinking how unfair.
