Default Driving in the emergency lane m50- wrecking tyres

I use the emergency lane sometimes on the m50 during rush hour because most of the time its just a car park these days. Replaced my front tyre at the weekend because the front tyre had lumps and dents in it. I think its from all those stones I inadvertently hit. Got another slow puncture again this morning on my new front tyre. It had the incorrect psi when I got the new tyre but I did hit a stone yesterday evening leaving Dublin on m50. I wonder should I just avoid the emergency lane in future.

I started a thread last year sometime asking why more bikers didn't use the hard shoulder as it is generally free and the general consensus was that the hard shoulder is full of crap to punture and wreck tyres and therefore simply wasn't worth riding in. I'm glad I asked before going through a few sets of tyres, lots to be learned here from some of the lads.

Besides, it is called the emergency lane cos it is only for emergency response vehicles.

Just because as bikers we can, does not mean we have to.

And I am the worst offender in bicycle lanes through town so I should not be sanctimonious either......

Besides the wreckage there, cage drivers might dive into that lane without looking when they panic. That's not to say they'll never dive across all the lanes without looking anyway...

lesson learnt and I'd imagine the guards would take a dim view to anyone driving in the emergency lane.

Never seen an emergency vehicle using the hard shoulder, they prefer to make headway up between lanes - even they know how dodgy it is to drive on

And you gotta love what the RSA have to say
Do not drive in the hard shoulder
Never, ever stop on the hard shoulder of a motorway
What to do if your vehicle breaks down? Move your vehicle to the hard shoulder.

Seen gards going on the hard shoulder yesterday.

To the OP, learn to safely filter. Hard shoulder is where all the shit collects, and its illegal to drive there.

Name of the game is: Lane Split

I wouldn't go to the hard shoulder at all...

Every time I got a tyre puncture was after using the hard shoulder. New set of tyres is more expensive than the time you can save by using hard shoulder, plus, it's not really safer due to often large debris being left there. And no one expects you there so peeps won't look into a mirror whatsoever.

Drivin in hard shoulder is illegal. Theyl do ya. Filtering is not. Tis in a garda handbook. Which I showed to a gard who wanted to do me for it.

Build up your confidence and filter. I do the M 50 every day both ways.
When its really heavy I flick passing light occasionally sometimes to not just blend into the lines of lights. Just get used to filtering stay out of hard shoulder, you wouldn't have a leg to stand on if some fool swoops in on top of ya. Also bits in radiator are more expensive if its broke bad. I used outside space between road and dividers once after some oul fool purposely blocked my path. ruined a brand new tire. Lesson learned

As above stay out of the Hard Shoulder you mad man, you will be done for it 100% if caught, its already fooked up your tyres and its dangerous as no one is expecting someone going up it.

For all those reasons dont do it. Learn some more skills and filter properly
