The intake rubbers are a common failure point on them, check them for cracks

Just 2,500km from new?

Make sure the choke is off. Check for sticky throttle or choke cables.

Once you are satisfied the cables are working properly, you can
adjust the engine idling speed using the screw on the left side of the
engine. See "Adjusting the engine idling speed" in the owners
manual.

and seems like its over heating .
It is an air cooled engine, so it will get smelly hot in heavy
traffic. This is normal.

.

Quite likely there is nothing wrong. You can expect to see some
smoke or steam in normal use. If there is an exhaust leak, you may
have a leaky gasket/seal/O-ring. Sometimes this will be caused by
loose header or clamp bolts.

That's the first thing that came up to my mind. If you forgot the choke that will definitely cause the symptoms described above.

Lovely bike the XVS by the way, it was my first bike as well and loved it.

Removed the carbs on my G/F's bike during the winter to do the valve adjustment. Those rubbers were SHOT. I have friends that have patched them with Tiger Seal, but the ones that came out of this bike were really gone. Never seen anything like it. There's a heat deflector underneath them made from cardboard, reflective on one side, but I wouldn't count on it doing much on a hot day in city traffic. Bike is an 01, 30,000 miles, never seen a city. If I remember correctly, Yamaha want €118 each for them plus VAT, got them on www.aliexpress for US$15. Who cares if they don't last as long? At that price you can afford to change them anytime. Came with the seals too, perfect fit.
