Default brake fluid

as far as i can tell, the brake fluid reservoirs are both empty.
i tilted my bike back and forth, but cant see any fluid level.

i heard that as the pads get worn, the fluid level can drop - but surely not this much?
i looked for signs of leakage - paintwork messed up - i found a little something on the front mudguard - a small patch of messed up paint/ plastic. but its only small - damage area is about 6ml diameter. i was expecting more damage from brake fluid leak - so, not sure if that damage patch is just coincidence

is it ok to just topup brake fluid, or should i go the route of replacing old for new? is it much hassle doing it yourself?

Check your pads first. No point topping up if your pads need replacing. Replace all the fluid also. You may have gotten air bubbles from the low fluid level.

Edit.. Wot eirehead said first.
K7... I don't know would I bother replacing the fluid.

Have you brakes?... no fluid... no brakes, once it drops below the master.

take off the lid and top it up. If your brakes are solid and don't feel spongy at the lever...job done. If they are spongy...come back here.

(Heres a hint.. if you've a new bottle of fluid, put a small hole on two opposite sides of the foil, easier to pour without makin a mess.)

yeah, it might be a case of too much fluid.
will check this out later.
thing is - my brakes feel fine.

if the fluid level drops too low - do the brakes just stop working all of a sudden- or is it more like ur brakes get progressively worse?

they can draw air into the system and then you could end up in big trouble with no brakes,as said if your unsure get someone to have a look at them

Make sure the resevoir is level when you got to look inside or the fluid will go everywhere, and maybe you should have a bottle of new brake fluid handy just in case some does spill out. You don't want to be stuck with a bike with no brakes.

You might need to reset the little diaphram thingie inside the cap if you're filling it up. That confused me the first time I looked inside my resevoir.
