Why are we pulling down our pants an taking this one up the arse from the EU theres no need for anti tampering legislation,(i know its only supposed to be for small bikes but dail eireann has a habit of putting this through in stupid ways, like the direct access tests a few years ago) i also see this as the thin end of the wedge dude has a point about the cop yoke too To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. |

Having consulted widely at rallies and with others around the country, MAG came to the conclusion there was no stomach for big protests at this point.
The legislation isn't set in stone, and Dáil Éireann have no say in its implementation as it's a Framework Legislation item (automatically in force, national governments get no real say!) Personally, I can understand why MAG UK went ahead, they were damned either way, but most of what's there to protest about is already gone from the legislation, and the majority of what's left is already on the books anyway!! I'm no longer taxing or insuring my bikes, and any cop who has a problem with that, better be fuckin' fast! To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. |

However, besides there being nothing to protest - we felt that a rolling protest along Irish motorways was suicidal at best ... We all know how bad they are on a good day, now imagine a caver on the outside lane deciding to turn off through a bunch of bikers, stop and wait for a break, or barge through ... Thought so! Personally, I'd rather we held fire on big protests until we have something against which to protest, otherwise it overshadows all the great things we bikers as a community do - RevUp4DSI and a thousand other charity runs a year! We raise millions annually for causes, that needs to be the face of biking - not burn-outs on Kildare St, protesting things that weren't ever going to happen. P |

So if I put non Ducati brake pads in my bike, I'm breaking the law? Good Jesus- "I would like to apologise to the court, I couldn't acquire a split pin as it was a Sunday, so I used a long nail instead. I am ashamed of my actions and now see the error of my ways. I will happily pay for the damage to the car that drove over me as I am aware my bike was tampered with hence my insurance is void"

this is currently only to be applied to the powertrain of small bikes, now what does the eu determine a small bike to be? A fifty or a six hundred? And will the irish government make a mess of it like the and/or in the power restriction legislation, domt forget roger casement was hanged for a comma

Smaller bikes - yes, that's still a worry - and still in play, there are already anti-tamper rules on 50cc and certain 125s - which is what they're trying to justify now. Even these restrictions may yet fall by the wayside, as power increases would fall within "exceeding licence conditions" in many cases, possibly a handful were the brakes/chassis aren't up to the job of the extra power. If a bike has too much power for the frame, Don't buy it!
I wonder how modern legislation would judge the likes of a CD175? |

Guys ... DON'T PANIC
This will only ever apply to new bikes AFTER the legislation comes in (if it does !) Word from Brussels is that this might not make it through in anything vaguely related to the stuff we've already read ... it'll be so watered down as not to affect us in any case ! P |
