How soon after you started riding did everyone do there test? I'm only on the road a few weeks. Would a month or two on the road then go about doing the test be a good idea?

Not passed test today :)
As for me, I understand few things: - If you are approaching roundabout and need some time to understand is it safe to proceed and where to go on it, you slow down or stop at yield sing and there is no cars on roundabout - I got 3 marks for that; - Moving on junction after a car on green, car pass, you see an amber light and stop on cyclist box - I got 2 marks for that stop (1 in progress at traffic light and second in traffic control at traffic lights), nobody care that you stop far before the traffic light and bike is still on minor road; - Putting bike on central stand, learn, learn and learn again - 1 bad mark for that, not depending on your bike type, size, length or weight, you need: "to put it on central stand only with 1 hand on handlebar and second on bikes back" (c) ... After short explanation about how I was going on test, I got a strong feeling that than he saw scooter for test it was like: "That da hell is that? " Seems that next try to pass test will be like that - you are too aggressive on roundabouts and junctions To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. |

When stopped at traffic lights, do you lose marks for staying in 1st gear or are you expected to go into neutral?

Doing my test in Finglas next Thursday. Had a pre-test today with Brian from Rodecode which went very well, he ironed out a few bad habits for me.
For those who aren't doing a pre-test I would say that one important thing to get the hang of is the U-turn and the fact you should be doing a lifesaver before pulling off, then another one both up and down the road just when you are at the half way mark (but not fully commited) of the turn and then flick the indicator left to pull in and a final lifesaver before pulling in also. That's a lot of lifesavers and then you gotta throw indicators and mirrors in also. I've spent 40 minutes after todays lesson in a supermarket carpark perfecting it and I have it down now. But one thing I would say is to not show up for the test without having this skill nailed, the manoeuvre is a dangerous one so it is important to get right. I'm glad I did the pre-test to find out all of the above- it is those little things an instructor can show you that makes a pre-test worth paying for IMO. |
