I have my first track day coming up on the 13 april and need to get the finger out and get the bike ready for it. Its my first trackbike, a k2 gsxr 600 that i bought a few weeks ago.
what kind of oil should i use, fully or part synthetic? What grade? I planned on using hi flo air and oil filter and ngk iridium plugs, should i be using something else? I wil be getting new tyres, valve clearences done, maybe a brake fluid change and a general checkover. Is there anything else i should or have to do before i take it to the track? |

If ya can afford the fully synthetic use it and if u wanted you could drain out coolant if thats whats in the rad and use water only just in case u lay it down coolant is as bad as oil on a track surface

As said above, make sure theres no coolant in the water, has to be 100% pure water. you might also wanna put race brake fluid in, its a lot more expensive but has a much higher boiling point so will perform way better over long periods of hard use. Apart from that just make sure everything is tight, double check everything after each run for leaks, loose bolts, anything basically that can cause you or anyone else harm, get into the habbit of checking your bike over every time

A lot of guys who pack in the racing often break & sell parts from their race bikes so keep an eye on the 2nd hand buy & sell sites for a decent race shock & stiffer fork springs, probably source these from Ebay. You could change the fork oil to a heavier grade for better damping. I did a bit of racing back in the day & the first time I drove around Mondello was absolutely nerve-Wracking. I thought I was mad on the road until other lads on the track showed me what riding a bike hard was all about. The main thing is to enjoy yourself, take it slowly first as the more you practice the better you get. Pick out an experienced rider on the circuit with a similar bike & follow them around for a few laps. You don't have to kill yourself trying to keep up but copy their braking points & lines into the corners, it's completely different to being on the road. The first time you get your knee down on a corner is a brillant sensation, fills you full of confidence & you start getting quicker & quicker. |

i am absolutely sh*****g it to be honest and its still 3 weeks away. but at the same time i cant wait for it. i have never done a trackday before so will be a complete beginner in the novice class, but am very lucky as its my bike club organising the day To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. . some of the club members who will be there on the day are very experienced racers, both in short circuit, roads and even the TT. there will be a lot to be learned from these guys. bring it on To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. |

Some of the older bike do not like Fully sinthetic oil, clutch would slip so check your manual if you have one.
Semi-sinthetic is fine considering that you are suppose to change it after every 2nd meeting or so, i change mine after one race weekend if i have the money. Make sure your calipers are safety wired. Check tire pressures, roughly 32front, 28 rear for most tires except for Dunlops N-Tec's. Drink plenty of water through out the day. come up to one of the marshals in garage#1 and ask him to follow you and then show you some good line and then have a chat with that marshal after the session for feedback. Enjoy. |

i wudnt worry about bein nervous most racers from novices to isb riders are nervous when gettin on the bike after the winter break, your not alone there, main thing is to concentrate on enjoyin the day and the rest will fall into place.
