I got a gasket sheet (A4 size) from a autoshop, made from petrol & oil resistant material, You cut out a gasket shape from it. Worked a treat for me. Sheet was about 10euros I think. Got it in Central Autoparts Athlone over 10 years ago. I guess it is still on sale. Great stuff, easy to cut with a sharp stanley blade.

What bike is it?
You can try sealing it, loctite do a petrol gasket sealent, have a search but its the ethanol in juice thats the kicker sealing wise, it eats through most of them over time. At the mo alot of places have 5% content, theres talk about bumping it to 10%. Causes metal tanks to rust and plastic ones to distort as its more prone to allow alcohol and water slurry to separate from the petrol. Eats the shit out of any seasl that aernt viton too. Seen this yday on my own yoke, the pump baseplate screws are no longer lining up perfectly. If your not uisng the bike much drain/flush the tank and allow it to dry. Most nylon based tanks will revert back to thier originals shape over a couple weeks as the absorbed moisture in the nylon evaporates. Then seal it with this To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. Caswells is one of the few out there is proven to be up to the task in this regard. Will be doing this myself this winter. |
