Well done so far, having never swung a leg over a bike I started biking in 07 on a Bandit 600, had a few lessons from Mo Garvey, passed test first time in Ennis having only been there once before. Went back to her after for advanced training, well worth it. Me & a mate went to the IOM in 08 and I have been to Europe every year since and I'm still alive, I have no connection with Mo but have no hesitation in recommending her.

Cheers for the tip off for Mo Garvey, I completed my IBT with her this weekend. She was brilliant. Didn't have time to spread out the lessons so she did the full 16 hours in the 1 weekend and she did the insurance assessment and all for me as well. Got a grade 2

which was a nice boost to the confidence after so long away. Now I just have to wait 6 months to do the test

Excellent, all you need now is the weather, you're already in a great biking county.

I can see there are a lot more restrictions now and any advice is welcome.
I sympathize with you on the costs of your starter 250. I got my own CBR250 about 2 years ago when I was 19. Insurance was...wait for it....4000. I did an AON Bike Skill test to bring it down to a "very affordable" 2500. For the brief amount of time I could afford it, it was great.

Now a smidge older going back to do the test.

OP, you would do very well to get insured on a CBR 600 on first year of provisional license. This time last year I rang every single insurance crowd, and most of them won't quote me unless the bike is 'factory restricted', but of those who would insure 'garage restricted' bikes, I could only get quotes on SV650 and Fazer 600. No one would insure me on a CBR 600f.

This year, with one years NCB and full license, most would insure me on CBR600f, although I remember there's at least one that wouldn't, unless I get Grade 2 assessment done.

Whichever route you go, enjoy biking! :)
