I have a small hole in my petrol tank about a mil anyway a hole is a hole and it's pissing out... yeah you got it...petrol!!!
Anyway i've thought about using petseal but i've heard petseal dosn't react well because of the ethanol in petrol. Anyone got any advice on the best product to use or what they have used thats worked. jbweld is good stuff, i did the tank on blackrhythms old slabbie with it,
the only problem is if you've one hole theres probably more on the way, seal the tank from the inside(see the por15 sticky at the top of the page) |

an area of mine started that way pin hole after pinhole - so eventually bit the bullet and cleaned an area 4 x required and and used a product called petrol seal from local factors. Can be worked after but i didn't bother as tank bag covering - not a problem since. This will get you going tiil you find another reasonably priced tank.

Go to your nearest motor factors and ask for Rectorseal EP200 putty. Follow the instructions for mixing and make sure the surface is sanded down and clean around the hole and fill it. I've used it and it works great.
If there is one pin hole, another isn't far behind. You should also Petseal the tank, but that is a pain and is dear. Probably best bet is to eventually shop around for a new tank. On the subject, anyone know if Petseal is actually fibreglass resin? |

Had this problem on my bros. I dropped the bike one day and the tank started leaking at the seam.
The way I fixed it was by emptying the tank and then applying quicksteel from local motorfactors. Left it to cure for the day and never had problems with it since. Didn't do a pretty job on it but it did the trick. To view pics on this biker's forum - your post count must be 2 or greater. |
