Default rvf rings

lads,
took a tumble last nigt off the rvf, broke the clutch casing amoung other things. friend sorted me out with a new one.the prob is i drove 5 miles home with casing wide open so no oil in engine. started her today and she didn`t sound right, so i`m thinking i better change the rings, any ideas where i`d pick some up??

You drove it five miles with no oil in the engine?!

Dont start the bike again, get it to a mechanic ASAP.

but,as for your engine, expect knackered big end bearings at very minimum, most likely mains as well. 5 miles was overdoing it just a wee bit

probably going to be looking at cheapest option which would most likely be a doner engine

just an edit... not familiar with the engine but guessing that the bearings are actually shell bearings (probably wrong, am cage mech not a bike) if so, then you maybe very lucky and just have to change the shells and not crank too, the shells are quite soft and generally lunch themselves and leave the crank usable

Toast is perhaps a little unfair.................

I'ts very likely that you wrecked the big end bearings and possibly the main bearings and the crank is likely to be fecked as well even of only one bearing is wrecked the liklyhood is that the crank is fecked. Topend might be alright as a certain amount of oil will have remained there but the bottom end needs full oil pressure.................you had little or none.
Repair is doable but very expensive with new parts................even second hand parts will still need new bearings..................a good complete second hand motor is prob cheapest even then I'd do a full rebuild...................largely it depends on how much you want to keep you bike and how much it means to you

Financially toasted engine!
Cheaper to get a new engine then to fix the one you have.
If you had of pushed it then it would have been fine but you overheated unoiled engine components and now the are fecked.

Hope you get an engine cheap, try the breakers in the breakers thread.

had a bike mechanic look at it and he said was f@cked, big end amoung others probably, sourced a second hand engine after countless phone calls. have old engine almost out, took off rocker covers and everything up top looked fine, but as the lads above said it would be somewhat ok. when i saya wee bit chopper it was nothing worth talking about, a few drops at the bottom.
