Yer Irish licence is fully valid up der, no need ta change if yer stil livvin in de sowt and travlin up ta wurk. If yer moovin up, ye kin just ekkschange it ferra full yoo kay licence, simpil. And BTW, dunt mind dat lamp; no sutch fookin ting as a yooropean licence, on de way but only skedyoold between 2013 and 2034.

AFAIK ROI license is treated as equal up north so you should be able to exchange. Not sure what hoops in terms of addresses or stuff you might have to jump through, but ye could worry about that when ye get the job. Good luck

If they are looking for a UK Licence, and according to the attached link you can't get one, apply and worry about it at the interview, assuming you get interviewed

It says it on the front of your irish license 'european communities model' says the same on theirs. All the categories are the same, A1 = A1, B = B etc.. You can exchange it if you want, but you'd need have proof thet you been living there 6 months first.

Say your a student...its the best way to get around All residence laws concerning Driving Licence, VRT etc etc.
But actually you dont have to change your licence at all. Ive been driving in Ireland on a UK licence for the past 7 years (lived in UK for 4 of those years) and dont intend to change it as there is no need to (according to DVLA). Plus RSA website says: The holder of a driving licence issued by the competent authority of another member state of the European Union or of the European Economic Area (i.e. EU + Norway, Liechenstein and Iceland) may drive in Ireland on that licence for the duration of its validity. (ie my UK one will last until 2050 and is legal to drive in all EU countries for any amount of time). Last edited by tiger18; 9th February 2010 at 10:49 PM. Reason: found more info |
