Two guys with the same engine in their bikes about to draw pistols at dawn over whether perpetual motion is a possibility? We are a divided bunch with only the number of wheels on our transport as a common denominator. I'll grow my own bioethanol before I'll own a battery powered bike, but when the petrol runs out do you think there'll be government grants so that lads on the dole or minimum wage can afford hydrogen fuel cell powered transport? Oh noes - them lads is taking the bus. Unless they went to big boys school and can afford the alternative... Anyways, I'm off out to fire up my two stroke supermoto and wake up the whole county by screaming past their houses at 130dB. Thats where my biking is going. 'cptr |

tried to read the last couple of pages of this but couldnt im getting a pain in my head.
Three points 1.does the basics that energy can not be created or destroyed but only changed form, still stand 2.to charge batteries energy still has to produced be it by fossil fuels wind power etc 3,dont make septic a mod |

'cptr
Good on you mate:thumbup: I'm heading out myself soon. Great day for a ride. I've been retired for a few years and I'm afraid the big boys school wasnt much use in the end. Now I'm just an old fart, waiting to push up a few daisies :) |

Re: Wheres biking going ?
electric motors are!
what ever powers them doesnt give a fuck! just a typical thread getting side tracked! and if not for boggers living in the middle of nowhere it wouldnt have went any further than the bikes you can already buy with 100 mile range and they will only improve!
But lets be honest here what man in his right mind wouldnt do over 100 miles on a decent spin. Even for those lads who dont go out on thier bikes untill the sun is splitting the fuckin stones and the chance of rain is nill will be doing over 100 miles when the bike finally comes out. And obviously I cant speak for anyone other then myself but whats the fuckin point in having a bike if ye aint gonna drive the fuckin thing. As for getting back to whats been said on this thread yes that 100 mile range can only improve but slowly and lets be honest electric powered vehicles will never ever be viable as far as I can see. Not everyone works in an office 20 miles form there home. What about couriers/guards/fire service/ ambulance/ taxis/ truck drivers etc etc.... The list is endless of people who make a living through making up serious mileage. In my opinion hydrogen is the way forward. And it seems to be a whole lot more viable then electricity |
Re: Wheres biking going ?
To get back to the original question,
IMO biking is going down the toilet. Why?well lets take a look at whats happening to the market. The manufacturers are producing ever more powerful machines needing ever more complicated control systems. Why? They are making the bikes they want to make then convincing us it's what we want. That didnt work for the brits in the 60s/70s and it aint gonna work now. Meanwhile the cage industry is moving towards cheap, reliable, small, affordable transport. Who needs 200bhp restricted to 189mph? The japs saved the bike industry with bikes like the c50. Wheres the small fuel efficent bikes of today? Thats what will save biking.:thumbsup2: |
Re: Wheres biking going ?
Wind power is great and all but has to be backed up by gas turbines, check the development plans of any major country, its unreliable.
The part about technology not being released is more fact than paranoia. Oil companies are the biggest buyers of anything to do with transport or energy production. They are also one of the biggest research and development groups out there. It makes business sense for them. Apparently hydrogen could have been, if not is, viable but it was stalled by investment groups. Basically I think that unless a major break through in battery technology comes then electric is very limited. If you consider the rate of development of batteries over the last few decades it hasn't been staggering despite massive efforts which has led many people to think that they are reaching their limits of potential. RE where is biking going. I'm 22 just after moving from a Bandit to a CBR. Bikes are recreational for me, I enjoy the shit out of it when I can and spend a lot of my time and money on my bikes. I'm the youngest person I know on one and I can't see any desire in the younger groups. When it comes down to it, and this will be unpopular, it is much cheaper to run a small cage and far more practical for anyone under 25. Now that I have the CBR I can definitively say that our roads are not good enough to justify it. Ideally next I'll have a sport tourer VFR 800 or Blackbird, and a possibly something for feck arsing like an Apprilla Falco. Biking is dying no doubt about it. |
